Nope did not feel it here in Contra Costa County. Heard from friends working in San Francisco their buildings shook. It's all part of California living... but still scary to me

Uh-oh - my MIL lives in S. California so I have always paid attention to California quakes. Scary, scary to me anyway. I've never been in one, hope I never am.

I remember when the San Francisco quake hit - they broke into a channel I was watching to announce it but at that early point they had NO idea how terrible it was, some game was going on in a stadium and they decided to clear out the stadium to be on the safe side - this is all that was reported.

Within an hour, the news was breaking in with more and more dire reports, that was a simply *dreadful* earthquake.

Mylab, that game was baseball's World Series.

I've been in probably 8-10 earthquakes in my 47 years of living in CA. At this point, they don't scare me too much. The problem is, you never know if you're the epicenter and feeling the brunt of it, or just in the fringes while others are having their roofs cave in on them.

I am not a sports person at ALL, but it does ring a bell that this was a very important game now that you have explained what it was. I had almost forgotten, it's probably why they broke in about the staduim being cleared, there was current tv coverage going on already. I remember it sounded so casual and not so very important.

I lived across the continent, it was so terrible to watch the increasing coverage on that earthquake with more deadly reports, especially the next day when so much more was known. - I have been through many hurricanes and a few near tornado hits and am not so very afraid of them, but the idea of an earthquake terrifies me. I guess it's the "unknown" factor.

I didnt feel it, but I believe I was driving at that time.

I was at the Santa Clara DMV and didn't feel a thing.

You all are lucky. We had a 4.3 down here is So Cal a number of years ago that shook ceiling tiles out of their frames and knocked plants over. At the time my office overlooked the John Wayne (Orange County) airport and the earthquake was so hard and sudden we thought a plane had crashed.

Oh boy, I can't imagine. An earthquake would terrify me!!!
I live where nothing much happens other than the odd snow storm. Tornados, Earthquakes, Hurricanes all scare me to death. I guess it's just what you're used to.

Farthquake? What earthquake? Nothing here. Oh I'm near the epicenter. I slept through it. They usually wake me up.

I'm just over the hill from Santa Clara County and we didn't feel a thing. That size earthquake is a fun little rumble. Just enough to get your attention. Growing up in Concord, I remember a lot of those.

I didn't realize we had so many Bay Area (Contra Costa) peeps here.

Danihoney - I also didn't realize we had so many CC peeps here. I live in the San Ramon Valley. I was born and raised in Oakland, went to to school in Alameda.

I definitely felt it -- a jolt followed by 5-10 seconds of back-forth/rolling movement. I'm in the Santa Cruz mountains, half way between San Jose and Santa Cruz.

Having lived through many CA quakes, including the '89 (Loma Prieta) quake, I'm pretty used to them, but there is an initial point at which I think "how bad will this one get? Should I brace myself in the doorjam? Grab the cell phone!"

You would be surprised at how many earthquakes there are on a daily basis everywhere. Check out this site.

Have felt one earthquake since moving from Ca to Mo, and that was about 12 or more years ago. We have the infamous New Madrid fault about 100 mi. east of us.

I lived in Northern CA for the first 31 years of my life. So far I've never felt any of the (few) we've had here in Oregon. You do kind of get used to it, although the Loma Prieta quake truly scared me. Very scary!

donna did you see the article that the new madrid fault was "healing" and it was doubtful they'd ever have a quake again? the one way back in the 1800's when the mississippi flowed backwards?? supposed to have been the the worst quake in the usa...

my mid-west raised dad took us every night for about a week out to the drive-in, in the early 50's, after a quake smashed so many brick buildings...the apt we lived in at the time was a 5 story brick building, lol...
