Paint Design Dilemma Exterior

What color siding and to paint or not paint brick?

We are replacing our aluminum siding with Hardie plank. 1. Should I keep the house white (Arctic White), or change to some form of gray? Considering Hardie colors: Light Mist (top), Pearl Gray (middle) or Gray Slate (bottom). 2. Should I leave the brick as is or paint to match siding? FYI - windows will all be replaced with black and black shutters.

Do not paint brick. It is likely to cause damage to the brick over time, and painting has to be redone about every 10 years. Your brick is a nice neutral color. However, if you must color it, use a paint made for brick like this ONE with a 20 year warranty. Here are some of the colors offered by this company.

I would get rid of the shutters. Your windows are too wide, so shutters don't make sense. Instead, paint the trim around them to make them pop. If you can replace the trim with wider trim all the better. You can also paint the fascia and the vertical corner trim to add contrast. You can paint the door black as well, or choose a separate stand out color for the front door.

I agree, don't paint the brick. The only color that I don't like is the one above the dark gray. i would remove all the shutters.

soooo .. if i understand.. you dont really mind the front facade ... its more the sides that are bothering you ... thats where the monotone is.. to your eye ... i guess i dont know why you would not just change the sides??? but boy.. looking at the side .. i have no clue where i would go with those vertical lines .... and that tiny window... yikes ... but i still like the front as it is ... part of your side problem.. could be accomplished with trellises.. and introducing a vertical element to your foundation plantings ... that is part of the problem... the vast unbroken wall ... leading you to one vast unbroken color.. whatever it may be ... and i am still flustered by the vertical rather than horizontal siding.. whats that all about.. lol ... just playing devils advocate.. and adding variables for you to consider.. outside the box you are standing in .. props for hunting the area to scope out other paint schemes... its always nice to see it done wrong... lol ... ken

sage greens work well, the shutters could go, or be replaced a bit larger. the front door needs to be a pop since its set back, maybe a blue tone. soft yellow trim is nice with this combo

Don’t go by pictures. Have samples of each color made and try it out on your house. Then look at the samples from a distance and see how it looks in your light with your roof color. The front of the house is most important, but you might want to consider test samples on other sides of the house as well.

I like the red mulch, it adds a bit of color to the front of the house, but, you definitely need some nicer landscaping. The green above would look good where the almond is. I do agree with flopsycat1, that the trees appear to be too close to the house. You need to be very careful, so that the roots dont damage your foundation. They are very nice trees, maybe a possibility that they could be moved out into the yard itself. A landscaping company may be able to do that for you.

Agree - don’t paint brick and definitely get rid of shutters. Has the siding already been ordered? If not, try to choose a shade that harmonizes with the color of the brick.

No gray with the brick. Artic white. No shutters. Leave brick as is. Paint door. Add landscaping.
