Can i use one flourescent light or do i need 2?
Comments (19)There is a point where you get a bit of overkill. Two fixtures are better than one. Are three, four or five going to provide any real difference in plant performance? I tend to doubt it especially considering the fact that you need to raise the lights as the plants grow and here are other means like plant spacing or using reflective surfaces to get light through an increasingly dense plant canopy. When you are building this stand, John, you would be better advised to adjust the stand dimentions so that it will meet your future needs. Most of the double bulb fixtures that people use are 4 foot long. Therefore, I'd make the length of the stand slightly longer so that the fixtures arent pinched within the framework as you will need to raise or lower them. iprefer a dowel rod above each fixture with finishing nails inserted in the ends. Then with 2 sets of chain draped over each end of the structure you can simply slip the nail out of one chain link and into another to adjust height. But your 30" width is a bit confusing. Standard flats are 11" x 22". Newly germinated plants (first two weeks) need to have the lights just above the leaf canopy and so placing two trays/shelf parallel with the light tubes makes good sense. Once plants are forming a second set of leaves you should transplant them into larger cell packs unless you have already wasted space under lights by starting seeds in larger cells. My point is that at this next growth stage you can get reasonably good light coverage by placing 5 trays/shelf perpendicular to the light tubes. For this tray positioning a 23" wide shelf will work fine. You can staple a 3/8" cord around the shelf perimeter and just cut open a larger garbage bag as a liner. The cord will keep water contained nd the plastic will hold small amounts of water until it evaporates. I would not recommend watering plants on the shelves. You'll need to get them out from beneath the lights to do a good job and it can get a bit messy. I like to use a combination of watering methods: Bottom watering by wicking action, sprinkling can and mister for fragile plants. All of these watering methods are best done in different location. Once trays are allowed to drain of excess water set them centrally on an opened section of your favorite newspaper and by extending your arms under the tray and usung your hands to fold up the opposite newspaper corners around the tray corners you can transport trys accross your house without drips as long as you gently tip the tray away from you toward the folded corners. I can provide you with some guidelines for different 3 tier stands. I have two wooden frame stands, one simply cheap PVC frame stand and a ceiling supported 33 flat setup that get me through the "Free heat" phase of plant starting. After that the trade off of supplemental heat for free light begins to get stressing....See MoreCan I Mix These 2 Chair Styles Around the Table
Comments (13)I have 2 different end chairs with my dining room because I only had 4 matching chairs when I moved and ended up using the leaves in my dining table. The four chairs are collectibles that I refinished. I got the end chairs at Pier One. I can change out the pillows and make them look different, I currently have a purple rolled pillow and a lavender throw over the back of one of them. Table was set with an Easter theme. They are not perfect, but they are what I could afford at the time. I think they work as they are the same height and the dark wood blends in with the other furniture in the room. Having a similar or taller height on the end works well. A shorter one is difficult to fit in as it tends to pull the look of the end of the table down...hope that makes sense. Many folks use wing chairs on the ends, which is really nice, style and size is more important than fabric or color as you can blend those in...just my opinion. :-)...See MoreNeed some help! Comments (8)Thank You All. Before I read your responses, I had mocked up a 36" chair to check it out. It didn't grab me. Then I looked at a BUNCH of pins on my Pinterest account...funny, the shorter 36" chairs DID look odd. So, I txt'd her this am, told her I couldn't make it, but told her if she doesn't sell them to let me know. They would make great extra chairs for when the table is extended. Most of those type of chairs I have found are 36" in height. Although occasionally I do find a 40" set. I think I will hold out for either a larger set (dimensions and quantity) or maybe go with a totally different style of chair. Thanks again, you all confirmed what was already in my head. Comments (21)I just don't love the metal chairs in that kitchen. As a stand alone object I think they are ok, but I think they are out of sync with the room as a whole. Those chairs are vaguely Memphis inspired, vaguely post-Modernist, and they remind me of the movies Beetle Juice, and Ruthless People. And the horizontal bar between the loops is kind of like a towel rack, sorry :) They are whimsical, and in the right place, sure, but that isnt a whimsical room. The thing I liked about the mixed BW dining room is the Benches. I could see Two of your chairs, used as the end chairs with wooden benches that looked like your island maybe. The chairs on the ends should be the "character" pieces IMO and almost any chair you try to put with those is going to invert that, unless they are really out there....See MoreRelated Professionals
