Large bedroom too warm despite AC
Comments (8)I am with hubby. I would not want a window-shaker in the bedroom if there is any other way. You have a premium system with the ground source heat pump. Running a window unit might cost more to operate than overcooling the rest of the house. A ceiling fan might be counterproductive. You might be better off letting hot air stratify near the ceiling. High wall mount mini splits don't have to be on outside walls if you can find a way to deal with the condensate. I have 6 on interior walls and the seventh on the outside wall has its plumbing run in the stud space, not directly to the outside. You could also install a small AHU in the top of a closet or in adjacent space. Before jumping into a mini split, do make sure that your system supply and return ducts to the MBr are operating properly. Modifications to your primo GSHP system probably makes more sense than adding. Larger ducts would do it if possible. In addition to that, let's paint with a big brush and see if another zone can be added. Ask around and get recommendations for excellent HVAC pros in your area and then get them in to look at it. On the other hand, a MSHP would be very easy to operate with a small back up generator. That room might be a nice oasis in times of power outage....See MoreWarm creamy exterior paint colour recommendation?
Comments (16)Wow! This takes me back! We have a warm yellowy cream stone and the same siding as you. I made a giant mistake and had the whole board and batten and other siding painted Gray Owl. It looked horrible. I then asked the painter to use a color I cannot remember and he only did one coat and that was the end of it. Also only in the front, which was fine by me as that was really all it needed. Now all I see is GRAY! Someday I will need to remedy this. However, we still have so much to do on our new build that is still not finished. Either way I hope you find a color you love! Sometimes you just have to buy sample paints and a lot of them to figure out what you really want. Put them on every wall and look at the from every angle on any time of the day. That includes sunny and cloudy days. I know from experience how hard and frustrating this all can be! Here you can see how gray the siding looks. Which is fine. However the front is what really matters. Of course, I haven't a pic of it. I would trade you my gray for your yellow! ;)...See MoreHow to stain "giraffe rock" facade so it's not orange?
Comments (34)I would not do something based on current fads. I design by classic elegant design principles becuase they remain elegant always. ie, Channel has not gone out of style! The color of the stones should match their environment and the style of the house. A modern house would never do with orange stones. a woody, midcentry modern house might. not orange- ever- but natural stones that are warmer- tans, etc. If one is selling a house this year, and doesn’t care about the long term design quality of the house, I can see going with what is popular but...I still wouldn’t choose something just becuase its the latest fad. I have a girraff wall that was popular at the time, but does not at all go with a grey victorian house, nor does it reflect the local color of the rocks. its horrible. if i had had more money, it would have put me off buying this house becuase replacing the retaining walls is too expensive a project for me now. but I have to look away when I pass them....See MoreHow to modernize exterior lava chimney stone
Comments (16)I think the exterior stone looks fine, but, the foundation color under it does not look so fine and it is not complimenting your stone at all. To be honest, while I dont dislike the white interior stone, I would have preferred to see a paint wash on the stone, rather than the big flat solid sea of white. I would also like to see the gray of your garage, the same shade of gray as your house. It appears to be much lighter. The white garage door is another big sea of white, and should be painted in either a color from the stone, or the color of the mortar. Landscaping will help a lot too. You mentioned small grass for in front of the foundation. Make sure those grasses grow to at least 3 ft or so tall. Plant them 2 feet in front of the foundation, so they have room to spread out. Your house will be beautiful when you are done....See MoreJill
