Large vaulted bedroom
Comments (9)That's a great space and there's so much you can do! (Depending on budget of course.) If it feels cold, how about picking out some nice warm colors for the walls? I'd consider 2 colors and paint each color on facing walls (e.g., color 1 on north and south; color 2 on east and west walls.) Bigger pictures on walls. If art is cost prohibitive, maybe your kids can create something? Or have a friend take a pic of you with the kids and have it blown up large and framed. You can do cool effects now with software -- make it look like an oil painting, or sepia toned, or an Andy Warhol look, depending on what you like. It's YOUR space so celebrate you and get colors you love. Maybe jazz it up with some new fun drapes (Crate and Barrel now sells Marimeko by the yard. And IKEA has some fun things too.) It looks like you have an extra curtain rod up? You can remove it or put up a scarf or valance. The wall across from the window looks kind of bare, so I'd consider putting a dresser there. And if it feels cold, I'd swap out the rocker for a nice cozy arm chair with an ottoman, so you can curl up and read. (I have a lovely wooden rocker in my MB too and have yet to sit in it.) If you don't use the ceiling fan, a lovely light fixture could add a nice warm glow. A good way to start is by leafing through magazines and catalogs or browsing online, and starting a folder of looks you love for ideas. Check Craig's List, eBay, and Costco if you're a member for furniture deals. (We got a lovely BR set from Costco: king storage bed with headboard, chest, dresser, 2 night stands and a huge framed mirror) for a great price and the quality is terrific....See MoreCool or warm color for bedroom?
Comments (44)Yeah! Success! I ended up going with BM Smoke at 75%. BM Silver Gray just looked a bit too cold for me, so I chose Smoke because it had just a little bit of green to warm up the color. Now the pinky tones that sometimes came out of the headboard are just about gone. I will post pics when I get all the pictures hung and everything put back in place. The LRV of Smoke is 56.3. I wonder what the LRV is now that I only used it at 75%? Comparing to the fan deck, the 75% Smoke it a little bit lighter than the 100%, but not even close to as light as the next color up on the strip, Iceberg, which has an LRV of 73.4. I think Smoke is one of the neutral blue/gray/greens. Just about every other color works with it. It seems like more and more designers are using these "neutral blues" as a backdrop that will go with about anything but is so much more interesting that your standard beige. Does anyone have recommendations for sites with great bedding? I really like some of the stuff Dwell does, but nothing they currently have on their site right now would work for me. I really think I would like to use something that has some navy in it, and I would like to add some little pillows with some red or yellow, or even kelly green to spice things up....See MoreGonna have to turn the bedroom ac on, tonite!
Comments (18)It was warm and pleasant here today, but did not need the AC. Tonight I notice there is a tornado watch for much of Arkansas, Missouri and west Tennessee. That's what happens when it is unseasonably warm here. I just found myself a new screen saver from Birds and Blooms.... a beautiful huge snow scene. That's how I enjoy snow best! Comments (17)You could consider adding 70s heavy texture to the bed instead of macrame to the walls. Think Anthropologie levels of texture. You won't need alot, say one long lumbar,2 coral velvet, and a throw. Then a couple more soft coral accents (Pantone's new colour of the year) and a tiny bit of Yves Klein Blue. These small additions would make a large impact in your mostly neutral space and not let your headboard boss 'em. Basically, a palette like this work done by Lola Donaghue over at etsy. https://www.etsy.com/listing/244405243/abstract-print-large-giclee-print-beige?ref=shop_home_active_42...See Moremike_home
