Help with choosing wood floor stain
I have to decide on floor stain tomorrow and we have these colors to choose from but we can't seem to make up our mind. We don't want the interior to look gloomy but we don't want old-fashioned either. Our interior is simple transitional with no arch, ornaments, or circles. Just a bunch of clean squares and rectangles. The interior paint is BM paper white and the wood floor is white oak.
Which of these stains would you go with and why?

1) Golden Oak
2) Dark Walnut
3)Jacobean
4)Espresso

Comments (1)I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. Very difficult with transparent or semi-transparent stains since they contain little colorant and react with the wood. You could try a solid, or go the other way and simply use a bleaching agent to even everything out. Otherwise, Ace Hardware sells quarts of their exterior stains. Most others only sell gallons, but Lowes does have 4 oz samples of a few Cabot clear finishes. I've used them for decades on many kinds of projects, and I find it hard to believe that they don't have something suitable for whatever home application you have in mind. 3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoShola do you have other options or are these the ones you have already narrowed down. Golden oak is VERY traditional. The dark walnut is gorgeous and my fav if this is what you have to chose from. The darker floors will show dust very easily and you will find yourself sweeping all the time or your robot vac will be running all the time! This photo is a blend of provincial and English chesnut I believe. English Chesnut on its own is very beautiful on white oak as well!
