Oceanna, it is BM Spice Gold, the color card makes it seem so dark, but it's not at all. The first coat goes on pretty dark, but after the second coat it's fine. I would say the eating area is the most accurate color. It is the same color in the hallway by the stairs, where the entry table ,where the kids pics are and in the family room and kitchen, oh an upstairs spare bath. Based on the lighting it looks different. I wanted all the same color, but at this time did not want to repaint kitchen/family room. If I was willing to repaint, I would have done SW Restrained Gold. Still trying to find the right light fixture I used the polyshades on the staircase on and the spare vanity upstairs in the pic. I used Bombay Mahogany. I would recommend using the cherry color, the Bom Mah is way too dark. I wish I would have painted the vanity a chocolate color, it would have been easier. The stain is very hard to work with as it is extremely thick and gooey.

I like the vanity cabinetry, although the design is pretty weird. If you can keep it and retile, great. Use the stone counters/tub deck as your guide -- I think you might find some relatively plain tile in a cream or khaki, like a large-format linen tile, that would have a bit of texture without a competing larger pattern. You could do that everywhere, or you could do very plain on the shower and bath walls and something with a little more action on the floor. But I'd try to keep it simple visually, so that the nice stone and pretty wood can be the main focuses here, with maybe the modern shower design second. Aim for large-format tile (vertical is nice) and no accent band, to keep things simple. Small tiles on the shower floor, but hopefully something that matches the main floor, so the transition from one to the other is smooth. "bird bath" I think means that the shower pan appears to be pooling with water rather than draining completely, indicating that it might not have been sloped properly. Since new tile in the shower means a complete gut there (so that new waterproofing can be done before laying new tile), you should be able to fix that and get the crazy sconces out of there too -- get enclosed lighting and put it above the tile level.

Apologies for delayed reply on these! Thanks for all of your responses. @littlebug - We would be keeping this house for our future kids to inherit and/or for use as a rental/AirBnB. We are also planning on using the equity to fund future real estate investments as it grows, since this area is by the water and the land value has historically only increased here, despite the bubble collapse in past years. Not contradictory statements, but one wouldn't know that without the background information. @hcbm - I don't have kids yet, so I don't have a frame of reference, but isn't filling an inflatable tub commensurate with filling a normal tub? Are you speaking to the inflatable part? @Karenseb - It IS a huge shower - I think it was originally a steam room, but it doesn't function that way anymore. Glass wall is a great idea. @North Texan - YIKES, I have no idea where the access is. The tub is completely tiled around. I can only guess that it must be underneath in the crawl space. We have the same issues you describe; black bits floating no matter how much I clean it. It's awful, but it is free since it's what we currently have, and it is not a big one. I like your idea of the pony wall and I REALLY like the idea of the outlet in the makeup area. @Sigrid - Do you regret keeping it? Is it for the same reason that concerns me, that losing a tub will have an impact on resale?

this is one of the worst jobs I've seen recently. sorry, but if you pay him for this shower, you're nuts. he is a GC, not a tile setter. big diff. any tile setter who knows anything will know you do NOT grout between the floor and bottom tile row, or any of those corner walls. any change of plane requires 100% silicone caulk (which comes in every color to match your grout). Grout is not waterproof. the bench is just bad. horrible. I doubt it's even waterproofed correctly. The fact that it's crooked says a lot. does he expect you to accept this? someone already mentioned this. look at tiles on top. 1/3 layout. now look at tiles on bottom of bench. 1/2 layout. I mean, WTH?? Was he on crack when he did this? point this out to him and ask him wtf. Besides the lack of continuity, this slant is a joke. Does he think water should just roll down to the right? Is the bench seat even slanted downward to allow water to drain off? the cutout around the water spigot?? just horrible. ditto the slivers of tiles and wonky layout. The floor tile should have been done first, and then you bring down your wall tiles on top of it so you don't get that large gap between the two. here's mine so you see what I mean i know this shower is larger, but proper tile layout is the same. again, larger view of mine. do you see the difference w/yours now? I don't know what he charged you, but even 100 bucks was too much. Call in a reputable tile setter (an actual tile pro, not a GC) and have him come out to give you his opinion and estimate to redo it. Your shower is a fail and you should not accept it. And no you aren't being picky. only a mental patient would think this looks good. Your GC should be ashamed of himself for doing this work AND taking your money for it. Please let him read all these comments. I'd love to hear his response.
