can you turn any of the doors into silding pocket or barn-type doors, or european type split doors? Can you take the door off the closet and have a built in closet nice enough to be visible all the time? Would it be possible to reverse the swing of the entry door, or too odd?

The bed on casters that I posted I'm pretty sure sleeps more than 1.

i would also consider a round bed for a guest bedroom but not many would. The “Wheel” model of this is interesting

Seems to me that 2 single beds should fit in there. A single is only 38 x 75 so with your room being 99" wide you still have 24" for the attic door swing. If you need to pull the bed away from the window a bit to allow for a headboard or curtain , you can replace the closet door with a curtain, and replace the attic door with a bifold. I assume that the largest door on the far right is the entry door.

If you have a queen in either corner going along the window wall it will fit and the doors will open. A full would give you a bit more walking space around the bed.

Please consider a wall bed or Murphy bed! Best thing for space saving. You don’t need the bed? It’s up and out of the way. Way more comfortable than any sofa bed.

Does "sleep 2" mean children or adults? A couple or 2 people who will not be sharing a bed? If a couple, Queen or Double? Occasional or longer term?

For our 2 young granddaughters we have Ikea twin foam mattresses that roll up, that we stash in a closet. Versatile. Surprisingly comfortable - I've had a good nights' sleep on one myself.

How about a trundle bed?

I agree with the Murphy bed idea. They have some very creative models that have shelving and even storage that folds under the bed when it is down. They use them in the condos we've stayed at in Maui and they easily transform a bedroom into a living room.

@Jennifer Hogan thank you, this is super helpful and gives me some hope that it can be done. This room would be for guests whenever they visit. Most often, this would be my 70-year old parents. They come every few months but I am likely going to have a surgery coming up and my mom will need to stay for an extended time period. Other than that, it would be the infrequent overnight guest. However, no one who stays in this room will spend much time in it. Basically, they sleep and get dressed. I would definitely prefer one bed. My budget is pretty flexible to a degree, as I am willing to spend more for the right solution.

@Michele I would love to do a Murphy bed. However, I had California Closets come in for a consultation, and she advised against it and said that it wouldn't fit. She said that if you put it against the left wall you wouldn't be able to open the attic door and on the right wall you wouldn't be able to open the entry door. She suggested a pullout because that you can move if you want to get to the attic, whereas a Murphy bed wouldn't be moveable. I am more than happy to hear contrary ideas if you have any! Love the idea of a murphy bed.

If you google them you will see lots of choices. Even Costco has them.

Looks to me like you should be able to fit a 80" long queen bed in here. Measure your room to see. If you opt for a Murphy bed it might be longer because of the headboard.

This gives both occupants of the bed room to get out on both sides. But to open the attic door you need to push the bed all the way to the window. I assume you don't go up the attic all that often. Not sure if you need to replace the closet door with a curtain.

If needed, would your mom be able to handle opening and closing a Murphy bed on her own when she is there to help you? I might also look at a pop-up trundle. When she is solo, it would be a twin, when your dad comes it would be two twins. The extra twin would be easy to maneuver out of the way, even when it's set up.

Some parents are slim, some get pretty heavy as they age. Quality of the mattress and need for a full or queen does make a difference (like my dad was 6'4" and 300 lbs when he passed away at age 70. A full size bed wouldn't have worked well.

I didn't have room for a queen in my second bedroom when my parents visited, but we had a daybed with a trundle unit. I gave my parents my queen and my husband and I used the day bed. (Trundle was a lift trundle, but would collapse in the middle of the night, so we just left it down and one slept up and one slept on the lower trundle.)

If the bed is in the corner will it be difficult for them to get in and out of the bed?

I like the idea of a Murphy Bed, but have stopped short of buying one for the simple reason that they are not inexpensive.

I spent $1000.00 on a decent box spring, frame and mattress for my guest room. Thinking of another $2k for a Murphy Bed cabinet just didn't make a lot of sense to me. I didn't need the space for other purposes. If I needed a game room or a study/office it may have been worth the investment.

Either twin beds flanking a 3 drawer chest with a lamp. BR door wouldn’t open completely, but more than enough to easily enter room. Or the preferred, Full or Q bed, which allows for a nightstand, dresser and a small chair (easily moved for attic access).

i have a personal dislike of bi-fold doors bur i think double paneled european doors look quit enice. They are often used as pantry doors. If you get them inset with plain or frosted glass they can help make a cramped space geel a bit less so

Jennifer. Ours is made by Wilding. We sleep on it every night. Opening and closing it is a breeze. I love it. I have a bad lower back and it’s no problem at all.

I don’t know how to advise regarding the doors, but as a person who’s somewhat obsessed with space saving (apartment in the city) I love pocket doors too. They really seem to solve a lot of issues. Not barn. Pocket.

Before buying a bed or beds, ask your parents what size and type bed they prefer. For example, If they sleep in a king bed at home, they will be uncomfortable with a double (full) size mattress, but they'd be fine with two twins. Often people get up in the night to go to the bathroom, so space on both sides of the bed(s) is necessary.

Outlining with blue tape on the floor is helpful to see how arrangements could work.

Yes, that is certainly an issue with Murphy beds. It looks like I'll have to do some research and weight out the best options with how much I'm willing to spend. That's a lot of money for a guest bed that wouldn't be used all that often. However, I do really like the idea of having the double functionality as an office when it's not in use as a guest room.

If it turns out that your parents prefer 2 single beds, you do have room for them in the positions I showed in an earlier post. Or you could do one regular single bed plus one space-saving bed. Something like a convertible bed/chair (e.g. sleeper loveseat) or single Murphy.

@adalisa frazzini Thanks! I like the set up that allows for the nightstand and dresser. It doesn't allow for accessibility on both sides of the bed, but if I go that route that might need to be something I just get over.

I’m 5’1 (1.5 on a good day, hee hee) My husband is 6’3”. Ours is a queen. It is so effortless. For our purposes it was perfect. I love having the space. It was expensive, but worth every single cent.

Yikes! I didn't know that about pop-up trundles. Good to know so as to avoid them. I wonder if there are different quality ones that might be better?

The day bed looks like it might work for kids, but I would hate to be the person in the back who would be up against a wall and have to climb out over the front person.

eta: I looked again and it looks like it can be designed so there is no back on it, which might work perfectly, so you can have it away from the wall for access from both sides.

Looking at the mattress dimensions I think you could lay either direction - there is only a 2 inch difference between the width and length.

IKEA daybed--I'll admit I have never slept on it when it's opened up fully. After a surgery my husband slept on it for a week or two when it was in the single bed format. It was fine.

When we open it up to use fully extended, we set it up so that bodies are perpendicular to the long side so each person can get in and out easily. My son and DIL have this too and her parents make long visits and sleep on it. They are both very tall.

@julieste I'm so bummed - I've been trying to get the Ikea daybed and having no luck. It has been out of stock where I live (and not available online for delivery). I even tried FB Marketplace. So bummed - I kind of fell in love with it without even seeing it!
