Fisher & Paykell Electric Dryer/venting setup/moisture sensor
Comments (27)dadoes: "Fault 6 refers to the inner sliding door panel and latch/release mechanism on the drum, not the outer loading lid." Hmm, well I never saw the fault code displayed on the LCD panel and the dryer never refused to start up, so I have no idea when this problem occurred, and certainly did nothing to correct it. dadoes: "E-mail sent again. :-)" And received, thank you very much! kcred: "I've only done one load since the cleaning, but I like to think the dryer is now more efficient, but it also might be wishful thinking on my part. I'm just glad it's clean as I'm a firm believer in preventative maintenance." I never thought about dryer maintenance before I had this no heat problem with my dryer. I emptied the lint bucket after every load, cleaned out the indoor lint trap water reservoir, but that was about it. Now I know to religiously check the vent for lint build up (once I get a "real" one installed especially,) as well as removing the lint bucket housing from time to time to clean out the lint from there as well. kcred: "BTW, I use that flexible-foil dryer vent hose. Haven't ever had a problem with it." I never thought there was a problem with it, either, and many, many people use the foil vent hoses. I don't believe any dryer manufacturers recommend using this sort of venting, however, and it certainly isn't UL listed, if that is important to you; Fisher & Paykell's user manual, (which I have finally read thoroughly :-o ) specifically says not to use it (and to never vent your dryer indoors, either - good thing I never needed warranty service because I bet my entire set up would have voided the warranty!) I have now read many articles as well as posts on various DIY, etc., forums written by people that also recommend against using the foil vent tubes. From what I have read, the problems caused by these foil vents is primarily due to air turbulence/resistance caused by the ridges in the foil ducting cutting down on the dryer's efficiency; even more important, the ridges - and the potential sagging or kinking of the aluminum foil venting - can also lead to a build up of lint, which can cause both a significant blockage of the vent and maybe even a fire. I'm not sure how one goes about cleaning out an aluminum foil vent tube, either; I would think one of the "normal" vent cleaning brushes would catch on all of the metal wire spiraling through the tube as well as tearing the foil itself. I think it all depends upon your venting configuration. In the picture, you can see that dadoes uses an aluminum vent, but it is just barely extended, there can be little air turbulence, it doesn't sag at all and is probably very easy to clean out. My vent will need to go about 8-10 ft to get to an outside wall so I intend to use rigid metal pipe for my vent. Comments (35)tinatark said: You can't set a specialty wash to start later. - and - About the dryer, I think the reverse-tumble system should have a time out feature - I've left the house with stuff drying on the wrinkle free cycle - not realizing it - come home hours later and it was still tumbling! The washer's menu doesn't allow scrolling to a Lifecycle, pressing Select, then scrolling the menu back to the Delay Start option? You mean the Wrinkle Free function, not reverse tumble. Reverse tumble occurs every 4.5 minutes throughout the drying cycle, and is not directly related to the Wrinkle Free option. The Wrinkle Free function does time-out after approx 24 hrs. You do understand what the Wrinkle Free option is for, yes? It comes into play at the end of the drying cycle, when the machine would otherwise be done and shut off. If the Wrinkle Free option is enabled, the clothes will be tumbled without heat for about 30 seconds every five minutes to prevent wrinkles that would otherwise occur if the dry clothes were left crumpled and stationary in the drum for an extended period. The end-of-cycle signal beeps after each tumble, reminding the user that the load is actually done and ready to come out. Since you're out of the house and unable to unload, Wrinkle Free is doing exactly what it's supposed to do -- tumbling the clothes periodically until you return so they don't get wrinkled. Most dryers with this feature have it run a maximum of 40 mins to 2.5 hrs, depending on the brand and model. Running it for 24 hrs is one of F&P's unique features for clothes care and convenience of the user. Wrinkle Free is enabled by default on several cycles (Easy Iron, Delicate, Sheets, Shirts), but can be turned off before Starting .. or added to any cycle that doesn't include it by default....See MoreFisher Paykel Problems
Comments (11)cramnitram, your pump may be the problem. GWL10 has a different electrical design, used on just that model. The pump is part of the machine's power circuit to the controller board, among other functions. The pump motor has an (auto-resetting) overload protector. If it overheats and shuts off, the entire machine will effectively be dead until the protector cools and resets. So, examine your pump for signs of leaking or a bad bearing, or perhaps accumulated lint/debris in the tub outlet and around the impeller that may be putting it under a load. If you have access to a volt/ohm meter, the pump should read 33 ohms. If there are ANY signs of a leak at the pump, DO NOT continue using the machine until the problem is corrected. A pump with damaged/corroded windings due to water exposure can go to high resistance and burn out the controller board. Pulling the pump is easy, no tools needed. It mounts to a metal plate beneath the tub. Unplug the machine, remove the wires from the pump. Look for a plastic latch on the plate. Hold the latch and rotate the entire pump body counterclockwise, it'll drop off the mounting plate. Have towels ready for any residual water in the tub sump. Lube the pump's seal face with liquid dish or hand soap before reattaching it to lessen the friction when rotating it into locked position. If you need to replace the pump, be sure to get the correct one for GWL10. A GWL08/GWL11/GWL15 pump WILL NOT work on a GWL10. Comments (4)SmartLoad does have a belt. The belt attaches from the motor, wraps around the right edge of the drum. Four possible sources of operational squeak/squeal -- 1) The belt idler pulleys (common). 2) The main drum bearing at the right side (fairly common). 3) The left-side support bearings (ceramic bushings) on the air duct assembly. 4) The motor bearings. The main bearing can be replaced from inside the drum. The other parts require disassembly of the dryer, which is different than other dryers. F&P parts for DIYers are available from SearsPartsDirect.com, FisherPaykelParts.net (not related to F&P parent company), or possibly direct from F&P. I could send a service manual to you, but you don't have an e-mail contact on your GardenWeb profile....See Moredadoes
