A Rusty Gate, A Bottle Tree, A Headboard...
Comments (29)What a great antique tool collection. If those tools could talk, they would tell us about hundreds of hours of dirt-work. Maybe they were there when the owners wore their backs out. lol. What a great way to display and honor what they represent. I would add a garden sign to the collection. "SWEAT HAPPENS". Or a quote from a gardening poet. "Sweat Doth Happeneth". There thats better. The blue bottle tree is so great and I'll bet looks wonderful as the continuation of the blue garden balls in the other tree. Your garden bench looks so inviting. The 'hopping steps' (log slices) make a very fun path to get to the seating area. Dont forget to paint loads of wood sealer on them every season. (I had some but mine were cut too thin and rotted down quickly) The headboard has a forboding look that says, it dares any of the woods to encroch any further. "May not grow beyound this fence". lol. It all works well and you needed that pop of white to prevent the shadows of the woods from swallowing up the designs of the bench and headboard. Thank you and Carol for providing a rose garden for your princess!!!!! Roses are gifts of love. I did not know that mini roses could live through the winter and come back! Let me know their proper name (it's probably Latin). I'm all excited about learning that. Great pictures!...See Moreideas for artwork over headboard
Comments (38)Just a quick update....the "Fly Home" canvas arrived yesterday - we love it! Had already decided it would not go in the bedroom. (Thanks, again, Perky, for photo help!) It's too big and colorful, etc. So, the Ballard Grand Bouquet plaque will be hung over our bed instead (as soon as it arrives - I love packages!) Instead, we moved a piece of existing artwork and put it in the master bath (where I intended the Ballard plaque to go), hung "Fly Home" in its place, and all is perfect. It looks like I actually knew what I was doing - ha. I was a little worried about the pinks in it, but they're very subtle, and they bring out the pink in some paintings I bought on vacation in Hilton Head (the first purchases I made for this house.) So it all worked out and life is good ......yea!...See MoreUpholstered bed head boards
Comments (10)I have one from Room & Board, purchased several years ago (I'll link to the one I have -- the headboard extends 27-28 inches from the top of the mattress, which is 1 mattress, not a mattress+boxspring, because this is a platform bed w/metal slats). I don't like a lot of throw pillows on the bed, but I do love my 2 Euro shams there that coordinate with my comforter, and those shams give me a little more cushioning in the back when I'm sitting up using my laptop or reading. Plus, if I thought I'd stain them with anything, they're a layer of protection. But quite honestly, I don't think that's ever been an issue. If you think there might be, you can always spray a fabric protector on it (all over on the upholstered parts, not just the headboard). I'd also be smart about which fabric you chose -- even touching the samples will tell you which need to be baby'd and which are tougher. By the way, I use a vacuum cleaner tool to "dust" the fabric when I need to, so a light cotton upholstery probably would be a bad choice. Comments (31)Hey, thanks again for the input! Oh, and before I forget -- Deborahnj, little Tristan is doing beautifully! He's growing and thriving and is a cute little butterbean of a baby. Thank you for asking! :-) I know it sounds unbelievable that we could get a king mattress up the stairs, but not a headboard. Well, that's because a mattress bends! Not so with a headboard! And no, the little niche that you see just to the right of the bed is not a full size that you could fit a bed within. It's just a little bump-in that houses a small closet: I've actually looked on Craig's List for a pair of twin headboards that we could make work, but haven't found anything yet. I'll keep searching, though -- eventually something is bound to pop up! Thanks again for the wonderfully creative ideas! You've all given me a few more options to chew on. :-)...See MoreJilly
