This is the order our general contractor did things in: Demolition Plumbing- set pipes behind the walls Electirician-set work behind the walls Drywall went up Shower base began to be built up Floor warming system went down (in shower and in room) Shower base was finished (it was a multi-day process) Then floor tiles went in Then cabinetry Then plumbing fixtures were installed electrical outlets, switches and fixtures were installed cabinetry was installed then marble countertop sinks, toilets, faucets mirror over vanity then minor stuff, moulding, towel hooks, tp holder,etc.

Plumbing AND electrical will be your biggest expense. If you open the walls, you have think about an electrician, too. You may not be able to put a tub and shower into the existing plumbing for your two sinks. The trap for the sinks is under the sink, not in the slab, and you will need them in the slab for the shower/tub Raising everything might be possible, but will look cheap. Plus, stepping into a tub that is raised will be inconvenient, and possibly dangerous. I don't see how you will avoid cracking the slab if you move the plumbing. I would not be surprised if your water lines were in the slab too.

If it wasn't so sad and ironic the situation would be laughable. If disabled people fell on tile all the time, there would be no tile in rehabs. There is non slip ceramic, porcelain, and vinyl tiles to select from which are more safe and sanitary than concrete stain. If you want an easy to clean surface with no grout lines, then there is an Armstrong tile called. Safety Zone. Sand the surface to remove whatever was installed and install this over top. I greatly appreciate any advice. Thanks for reading! My daughter needs her own shower. My plan is to rip out the tub and shower and install a full tile shower. The tub cracked first and we stopped using it. It continued to bow and crack for a few years. What appears to be water damage from the shower actually appeared after we stopped using the shower. The damage occurred over several years but seems to have stopped or at least greatly slowed now. I have not had to shave doors in a few years. The large cracks have not changed in a few years. Some external cracks have grown a lot in the last few years though. A home was built next to ours a few years ago and a few months later a soft depression formed on our side of the fence but it never changed after appearing. We have a lot of crumbling and cracking stucco problems. Our house is 11 years old. We live on a gentle hill slope and get seasonal downpours. There is a downspout near the trouble bathroom area but it has always drained well away from the house and has a good grade. We moved a piano a few feet off on the floor above the basement bathroom but the problem began well before we got the piano.
