Best Treatments for Large Windows

My 7-year old daughter's bedroom has a very large window. We have cellular shades but they broke. What is recommended for safety (we have cordless celluar shades and she loves to pull them up or down) and to also block out the sun? Drapes? Vertical blinds? THANK YOU!

Is there enough wall space on either side of the window, for thick/lined/blackout curtains to rest against the wall, without blocking the glass?

When it comes to window treatments, form and function should always go hand in hand. In your case, child safety is the #1 priority, so anything with a cord or endless chain is (almost) out of question. How about a lithium-ion battery motor roller shade? Runs 6 to 9 months before you have to recharge it and this is easy as charging your phone - plug and play.

Or you go with vertical blinds - make sure you have only a stick to move the blinds and to pivot them - avoid the chain.

Fabric Roman shades would be great. I found the best prices at blindsgalore - we just got new shades from them in December for our bedroom and were very pleased. Blindsgalore.com I just got on the website and priced 74" wide x 42" long (just a guess); with their current 33% sale going on, that size priced out at ~ $175. Lots of colors/patterns/plain.

I would go custom if I were you and get shaped shades or blinds made to fit your window. To have straight shades mounted at the very top and have wall space showing between the shade and some of the windows won't look too good IMO. To have them come down even to cover the tops of the windows, you'll lose the look. Then what was the point of those windows. With bottom up shades, you'll see ugly cords and a headrail at the top. There's no way to hide that. If you can live with that, well it's just something to think about. Custom may be pricey, but probably worth it in your case. My 2 cents.

IMO the darker drape does not work with the sofa. As for snarkey I will say that to have blinds to keep out the sun is the worst choice I like to be able to see out of my windows so I choose solar shades to control light and heat they also give you day time privacy and then I add drapes for nightime privacy . As for what to se for drapes I would need to see the whole space and no matter what you choose make sure they are the proper length

I would do some blinds on the bottom and leave the arch since this is a play room make sure the blinds have no cords.

THANKYOU!!! Would you recommend motorized shades for a BIG window? Are they strong/thick enough that even if she pulled on them that they could not break? THANK YOU!

IKEA sells really nice linen like drapes at a great price (if you need to, buy two sets and just sew together). I’ve did this for my large living room window and are not heavy to slide. You could sew on pompoms and there are pulls that you can also add, which will help her pull the them back and forth.
