What do you call this type of chair back?

Please don't say ugly. Despite all it's shortcomings, this is the most comfortable chair. It has rolled arms and a loose seat cushion. I want to get a natural canvas colour slipcover and would really prefer to not have to get a stretchy one, and would rather not fork out the money for custom made - but I'm not seeing anything like this in my days long search.

Are you okay with skirts? Almost have to be skirted for non-custom non-stretch. Try something like https://www.surefit.com/collections/slipcovers/products/cotton-duck-one-piece-chair-slipcover (or one of their other models).

I have a wingback with lots of curves and the standard skirted type works fine. You tuck the front of the back (did I just type that?) into the seat and it just kinda works.

I would look for camelback, but honestly, if it isn't custom, it's going to need to stretch. The odds are very slim that any off-the-shelf slipcover will fit without stretching I think. I always liked chairs that look like that, and if it's comfy, definitely keep it!

Thanks Bestyears. I'm wondering if I could modify a straight or rounded back cover. I guess I could look for a cheap one and try... The colour is not offensive, sort of a taupey sage in real life, I'm just looking for a bit of a refresh. I should start by cleaning it!

Proudmama: Yes, that's exactly what I'm looking for in a light maple. Puppy farms? Egads, just another category of purchases to feel guilty about.... hinge on left is a "face frame cup hinge"- other names exist hinge on right is "euro hinge" other names exist In both cases there are at least 6 mfgs who have up to dozens of variations of swing, cabinet clip, attachment... What do you really need to know? Soft close hinges- newest and most common the soft close is built into the hinge. Older ones had a piston mounted in the cabinet for the door to hit on closing. You might be able to clean them- carefully- no solvents, no WD40 (which is a solvent) but unlikely. On newer glides the soft close mechanisms is integral and can't really be repaired. The older (over 5 years) could be replaced if they were blum. Note that dust can be the death of undermount glides. Sawdust from install not cleaned or worse, granite dust and often the glides will have to be replaced. Keep after your installers.

patser - on one of the windows, I can see the track where the cords used to lie, on the other, it looks like the trim was changed, because I can't see any of that hardware. Both windows also have a pane of glass that spans the whole opening on the outside - an older storm window. I have another question - in one of the rooms (dining room), there is only one window and it is of this style I have described. However, in another room (Family Room)_ there are three windows - on two adjacent walls, there is one of these "unique" windows, and one that is a standard 32" wide double hung that is split in the middle. Then, across the room (fairly large room, 15X19) there is a large casement style window looking out to the backyard. So, if I were to hang a window treatment only on the bottom larger portion of the "unique" window, how would I then treat the other windows? Is there a recommended way to show of the character of my older window while staying consistent with the other two? Also... could I do a shade AND a lace curtain? So I could have privacy and lace? How do you think blinds would look? Alone, or along with the lace curtains? Hope this all makes sense! Thank you for your thoughts!

I work from home and am getting ready to need a new office chair. I spend hours every day in this chair and need something comfortable. My current chair is a typical black faux leather job with wheels - but because we are getting ready to put hardwood floors down in this room in the near future, I might want to consider getting a chair with regular legs that I can put felt feet pads on. What features should I look for in a chair? I know it will need to be relatively lightweight, but I worry about sacrificing comfort. I also want arms. I've been searching online and just can't even seem to narrow my scope. Ideas?

I was wondering if you could modify it as well. Do you have any sewing experience at all? Also, have you checked the custom slipcovers on Etsy? Some of them are really well-priced. Is that back cushion attached? Another possibility would be to replace it or change the shape of the foam yourself (if you dare!).

Yes, I can sew and I will check out Etsy - I did look there briefly at the beginning of my search, but perhaps I will dig deeper and contact some sellers.

Check slipcovershop.com. Although they couldn’t make one for my camelback sofa they may be able to make one for your chair. They are fast, reasonably priced and will send you fabric samples before ordering.

I don't mind the skirt, but not mad about the ties. Maddilee, thanks - will check out that site more thoroughly after dinner.

Since you can sew, you can modify a ready made slipcover. Select a cover that will accommodate the tallest part of your seat back. Then, you place the slipcover on inside-out and pin into the shape of your chair. Check your fit before you sew. Be aware that slipcovers aren’t reupholstery therefore, tucking and smoothing are required.

FWIW, I have a camel back sofa and use regular premade woven slipcovers on it and they work fine and conform to the curved back.

I really liked the slip cover from the site that Maddielee posted, but they don't do a matching ottoman. Bestyears, here is a pic of the chair and ottoman. The throw is covering up the dog foot prints!
