A Little Jewelry for Your Chair
Update Your Dining Room Seating With Some Chair-Back Bling
We all want a quick update to our furniture from time to time. And sometimes when you're buying a new piece, that standard chair just doesn't give you the excitement you're looking for. A perfect way to add some interest to your seating is by adding a chair-back pull. A little bling never hurt anyone! Think of a beautiful woman in the perfect dress. Just adding a sparking cocktail ring or beautiful necklace finishes off her whole ensemble, making it look more expensive. Doesn't our home deserve a little accessorizing, too?
Chair back pulls can be an incredibly interesting design element for your standard chair. For instance, I updated this art deco chair for a client using a lion head ring pull that cost less than $20. It's a quick and easy way to add interest and style to your seating without spending a lot of money.
The chairs in this gorgeous dining room made are instantly more glamorous by their ring pulls. The added metal detail helps create a balance in material by tying in these chairs with the shimmer of the chandelier and antiqued mirror.
Chair-back pulls are a gorgeous complement to the polished metal nailheads in this exquisite gray and blue dining room.
These chair-back pulls create an added detail that elevates the style of the room. Chair-back pulls are more often seen in restaurant settings than in homes, but I see this trend moving into residential design.
My business partner Carolina V. Gentry designs for the hospitality industry, where chair-back pulls can get heavy use. She suggests that when using them at home, like the ones shown in the dining room here, they should be for decorative purposes only and not used to actually move or pick up the chair.
If you intend to use chair back pulls for the functionality of ease in moving your chair, a more permanent option may be best for you. Take a look at these clever chairs; the designer has pierced the chair to create a sturdy handle.
Cliffside Polished Nickel Pull
If you want to get creative at home and update your chair on a dime, you can simply add some cabinet hardware to the back of your chair as a decorative element.
Tip: If you don't want to reupholster your chair, go with a hardware
option that can screw in from the front of the hardware, like the option shown here. Also, be aware of the length of your screw in relation to the thickness of your chair! Most of the time a cabinet pull, unlike the one shown here, is attached by screwing in from the back (this way your screws are concealed on the cabinet door and drawer fronts). While that's ideal for a cabinet, these screws won't be concealed on the other side of your chair, unless you can remove the upholstery and reupholster it after the hardware is installed.

Equestrian Horse Door Knocker
You can also get creative and use more decorative door knockers as your chair-back hardware. This horse head element with a decorative horseshoe knocker would be a sure conversation piece!
