Step up/down to a playroom or dining room?
Comments (15)One more vote to explore raising the ceiling instead of lowering the floor. In addition to lowering your home's value and making it a "definite no" to a lot of future buyers, you would make your house more dangerous to young children, older visitors and completely off-limits to anyone with accessibility issues. I live with brain injury I sustained at age 32 caused by tripping. It didn't seem like a big deal at the time, but it ended my career, as well as any potential to do anything else. It wouldn't take much for a guest to trip and crack their head. Would you be able to live with that if they sustained the damage I did? Could you afford the lawsuit that might be leveled against you? The increase in your homeowner's insurance if they knew you had that danger in your house? PLEASE don't do this. I apologize for the strong response. I just can't stand the thought of someone living with the headaches, vertigo, nausea, blurry vision, memory loss, etc. etc. I face every day. Especially if it can so easily be avoided....See MoreWorking on playroom -- good source for LOTS of bulk foam?
Comments (6)Thank you justgotabe me and kjmama. I forgot to say this is all on a budget. :) What we are trying to do is construct a large firm pillow. Right now the kids have an impromptu crash area in the L of our sectional, and just throw down our throw pillows (LOL). What we want to do is make a bigger, slightly better area down in the actual playroom. So they won't get the idea that crashing is what we do in the nicer areas of the new house. We won't have a mattress under the duvet "pillow". (Too $!) One of our daughter's occupational therapists (they actually came up with this idea to encourage her physical development) said maybe we could get extra odds and ends of foam from a foam company. Not sure how to do this...? Any other suggestions? I know this sounds off-topic, but it really is part of our decorating. Thanks! Amy...See MorePlayroom/Bonus Room Size
Comments (6)Our bonus room will be ~ 17'8" x 17'8" and will have a 5'8" x 9'8" nook attached to it. Part of the 18'x18' will be eaten up by the top of the stairs, so it's usable space is smaller. It will be a smaller bonus room than what we have now (I can't remember exactly what we have, but I'd guess its about 22' x 16', all usable. We've liked the size of our bonus room as it's taken up with a large sectional couch, big screen TV/Entertainment center and all the toys my kids have used. In our future house, most of the toys will be gone (kids are older and have outgrown them), so it's just going to be couch, TV/video games. The nook might house a desk for homework/school projects. I like a big bonus room. Gives you plenty of options....TV, pool table, ping pong table, crafts, toys, bar, couches, etc.......See MorePlayroom decor help!
Comments (12)Depending on how little your little ones are, you might want to stay away from curtains to avoid climbing/pulling hazards. I agree, move the hand print rug to create a separate, distinct play area in front of the window. I'd love to see a bench there with some throw pillows on it (to coordinate with what you put on the couch) and baskets underneath for blocks and Legos, etc. Or, a playtable and chairs would go nicely there also. Looks like you could also add a narrow bookshelf to the wall alongside the windows with a few puffs, to create a reading corner/nook. Don't get too carried away with finding the perfect pillows...it's a playroom. They will get stained and soiled. Get an assortment of primary colors from rug, (red, yellow, green, etc.) and make sure they are nice, light fluffy ones for some good pillow fights :)...See Morelauriegp18
