How do you make up a king sized bed?
Comments (30)I'm also a two king pillows with cases and two king pillows with shams user. Everything is white cotton or white matelasse, with a solid yellow quilt folded across the bottom. Our walls are yellow and the bed is against the wall. We have no headboard or footboard. Kitty cat sleeps on the yellow quilt every night. I also relate to your disappointment! I literally cried when my bed was delivered and set up, and called my sister on the phone I was so beside myself! I thought it looked so big and awkward and awful. I concluded I'd made one big honkin' mistake, and couldn't imagine *how* I could make such a thing actually look attractive. A little over six years later now, and I regard our king-sized bed as one of the best purchases we've ever made! Within a few months of living with it and adjusting my eye to it, I loved it, both in terms of how it looked in the room and how it functioned as a wonderful, dreamy place to sleep! I hope you find yourself with a transformed perspective too, Sonicmom....See MoreBatting type for King Size Quilt
Comments (12)Hi Marsha, sorry I'm late posting to this question! On the recommendation of my long arm quilter, I had the 80/20 cotton/poly batting used in my king size quilt. I love it! I was so reluctant to have any poly involved but it could not be more perfect. The loft is nice enough to show off the quilting; I like the look of it much better than Warm & Natural. It's also cooler and lighter weight. We've used it all summer with just a sheet and both of us were comfortable. I'm about to switch to a slightly heavier quilt for winter (or what counts as winter in Orlando) but I hate to take this one off the bed. DH Jim even suggested we just add a blanket under this one and keep using it! I think your ideas about 1/2 and 1/2 quilts are interesting, but not sure I would do that. I keep a large nap quilt beside the bed and if one of us gets chilly, we can use that on top of the regular quilt. Let us know what you decide to do! Kate...See MoreSize of machine stitched quilts. How large using standard machine?
Comments (9)I’ve done both, although I don’t do queen size in my domestic machine anymore, preferring to send them out to be long-armed. Choosing a thin batting will make it easier. Quilt as you go, you quilt strips (or blocks), then attach the strips and cover the seams front and back with long strips of fabric. My preferred method is to sew, by machine, one side each of two fabric strips (front and back), then zigzag the pieces, then sew down the other side of each strip by hand. You can also sew three of the four strip sides by machine and hand sew the pieces and final strip side....See MoreClothes stuck on agitator paddles
Comments (9)The user guide (assuming I found the correct one on GE's web site) advises that the Permanent Press / Casuals cycle has "pulsed" agitation, which means it alternates between agitation and soaking. Presumably it's a 1-speed motor, and "pulsing" is the only way it can provide gentler action. I found a couple videos on YouTube of the machine running on the Colors cycle (a blanket, and a small load of mixed items), and it's pretty aggressive. The cycle labels don't so much matter regards to what kinds of clothes are washed. Choose the cycle that performs appropriately for your needs. Selecting a larger load size (water level) also helps soften the agitation, allowing the clothes to float more. Old-style Maytag toploaders always instructed to select the highest water level for delicate items....See MoreSEA SEA
