Comments (0)I have a Kenmore Elite Calypso wash motion washer and everytime a small load is washed (socks to jackets) the items will get stuck under agitator. I get no error codes, when load is done I open lid to find my clothes stuck under the agitator. I then have to remove agitator cap unscrew the 8 bolts, lift off agitator base and retrieve articles of clothing that now contain holes in them. I have noticed that once I reassemble back to original state you can lift the agitator up and down about 1". Meaning there is a 1" inch play up and down. Is this ok? Is there something loose? I removed the bottom plate of washer to see if anything can be tighened and cannot see were the agitator is as the motor, belt system sits there. Any help on this would be great. Comments (88)Listening to all these comments I just want to scream. We have a Whirlpool Cabrio top loader which is fairly new. I noticed the water levels stay pretty low and the spin cycle did not always work at first since we moved in here and just got in this unit.. Sometimes I would put it on a second rinse to get the water out. The washer has corrected itself now and releases all the water however, it appears that everything I wash is pilling no matter what fabric whether it be towels shirts pants socks underwear or separately or together everything is pilling. Zippers and buttons are not any obstacles they have never caused a problem before and they aren't now. Nothing is snagging it. At this rate I will be losing all of my clothing if it keeps on. Most of these clothes I have had for a few years and they always wash up nice they never pill some of these clothes are brand new and pill after just a few Washings.. So my opinion is that these washing machines that supposed to be so modernized are ruining our clothes with the different Cycles in the process that the machine uses to wash the clothes I absolutely hate it. And we the customer, are suffering by buying an item that is useless and ruining our clothes.. in my opinion the general public should not have to go through this crazy task of trying to figure out what is causing this issue I feel it is a manufacturer problem something to do with the way these machines operate and we are stuck with it I'm ready to go buy an old fashioned washer that I know it's going to clean my clothes and not put me through such stress. Any repairman out there or anybody that has figured this out please help!!!! This machine worked in the beginning. I don't think it has to do with detergents, softeners, load limits, water level..... I truly believe it's poor quality workmanship in these machines that triggers this....See MoreSpeedQueen rips clothes
Comments (51)Hi Shaun and Tanya, Sorry to hear you are having this issue. Look for threads in the search function here in the laundry forum using the keyword cellulase. It's an enzyme that is added to some detergents. There is some debate as to whether this is causing the tiny holes. I really like Tide Free Gentle w/Downey liquid detergent. It makes the fabrics soft and smooth (doesn't actually contain fabric softener) by way of the added cellulase enzyme. I had to stop using it because we were getting the tiny holes in our t-shirts. This is not to be confused with how some Speed Queen top load washing machines are able to shred fabrics. Two different issues. Btw, I stand by my comments upthread from several years ago. Still using this washer. Still having the same good cleaning action and shredding. For those wondering, I don't overload the machine and I wash like fabrics with like. Never put jeans in with sheets for example. Making sure zippers and such are fastened is something everyone should be doing. I'm not sure why some don't have the problem and others do. It's a mystery. But we nicknamed our machine The Shred Queen a long time ago. I have posts on here about what to do about nice dress shirts getting ruined (while having only dress shirts in the load), etc...It's a good washing machine and has served us well, but it's not perfect. We bought a commercially designed and rated washing machine and try to keep that in mind when we lose another item to the shredder. Our motivation in buying this washer to finally have clean laundry, which we do since buying it, but there is a price to pay, at least with our particular unit....See Moredadoes
