10 of the Coziest Bedrooms on Houzz
Warm colors, soft textiles and rich material palettes make these bedrooms dreamy nests
As I write this, it’s officially a snow day in much of the country. It makes me think about my favorite word to overuse: cozy. There’s nothing like being stuck inside to make you want to feather your nest. The following rooms are adorned with classic quilts, layers of textiles, warm-colored walls, thick rugs, antiques and soft lighting. They make you want to put on some flannel PJs, shut out the rest of the world and tuck in for the night.
2. What makes it cozy? Layers of textiles, Roman shades in soft fabrics, the painted tongue-and-groove ceiling.
Direct access to the porch is a wonderful part of this bedroom, but at night these lucky homeowners can cozy up by drawing the Roman shades. A rug adds pattern in subtle colors and feels wonderful on the feet once the slippers are off.

3. What makes it cozy? Quilts, that dreamy window, the speckled walls and ceiling.
Low slanted ceilings like this can be tricky. But continuing the same pattern from walls to ceiling unifies the room and makes the height an asset. A cushy rug, vintage-style sconces and slightly mismatched star-patterned quilts must delight the guests who sleep here.

4. What makes it cozy? Scandinavian painted furniture, golden shiplap walls, beadboard ceiling and quilts.
Inspired by Scandinavian design, the happy mix of colors in this room makes it a favorite in the house. Slanted ceilings, beloved hand-painted family antiques and a big view out to the trees elevate it to super-cozy status.

5. What makes it cozy? Lovely wallpaper, the canopy bed, the botanical patterns.
This bedroom hints at being a secret aerie in some magical woods. Lovely botanical patterns, the arboreal details on the bed and warm shades of orange add up to oh-so-inviting.

6. What makes it cozy? A rustic accent wall, upholstered bed, a rag rug and books.
There’s an interesting tension between the rough-hewn reclaimed-wood wall and the sumptuous textiles and elegant shape of the bed. Using stacks of books as nightstands is a whimsical touch that encourages snuggling up with a good read.

7. What makes it cozy? Tucked-away built-ins, a classic sleigh bed, antiques and — wait, are those turtles?
There’s really not a cozier reading spot than a window seat surrounded by bookshelves. This one makes the most of it by adding antique brass library lighting overhead. Brass, bamboo and dark wood enhance the texture palette, while ceramic stacked-turtle reading lamps add a playful touch.

8. What makes it cozy? Exposed brick, a four-poster bed, Oriental rugs.
It’s hard to know where to start when getting down to what makes this room so cozy. The mix of rugs, the artwork, the books, the use of an antique blanket chest as a nightstand on one side and an antique chair on the other give it a collected look. By using mostly white bedding on the four-poster bed, the room is just the right balance of elegant and haphazard.

9. What makes it cozy? Tartan, extra blankets and tongue-and-groove paneling.
This room is relatively simple with its muted colors and one dominant pattern brought in via the wonderful tartan blanket. Tucking a single bed into a corner makes it cozier and more comfortable. (You’re 50 percent less likely to drop a pillow on the floor than if the bed were floating in the room.) And the stand draped with an extra blanket makes a guest feel well taken care of.

10. What makes it cozy? Tight proportions, the rustic beam, the super-fluffy duvet.
A room can have minimalistic, almost-all-white style and still be cozy. Nestling into a small space under the eaves can be a delight, even when you have to crawl over your partner to get to your side. Scratch that — this soft bed is begging for you to do a big dive onto it.

There’s just enough room for two in this comfy little bedroom. The texture of the wood on the wall shows through, while a light-colored stain keeps the space airy. Small nightstands provide enough room for a small bouquet, two cute matching reading lamps and a bottle of water.
