My hosta in pots
Comments (2)do NOT let them get frosted or frozen ... i would NOT water them anymore.. until it warms up ... a freeze with damp media will kill some ... i would keep them in the garage for a couple more weeks.. it might force leaves.. but its better than forgetting to check the weather.. a losing them ... or having to hoik them all to the garage.. at 1130 at night.. been there.. done that.. lol... you know.. they shouldnt be up this early .. dont harm them.. by trying to love them too much on the front porch ... ken...See MoreMy Roots are showing ( my hosta ones)
Comments (9)Ken , I hadn't heard anything from you for such a long time! Thought you never loved us all anymore lol As far as the age, they have been planted since 2012, 2013 and 2014 so are not some of the newer ones. All those roots sticking out may temp those voles to take a hike down the hill from Myrle's place and that would never do. Just born to worry about everything as if that makes it better . Could be my clay based soil needs lighter mix in it again...See MoreHELP! Mice in my sunroom in one of my pots!
Comments (30)Well, I am still battling one! I was dumb enough to release one that I caught and it just came back in and brought a friend. I have now sealed the area where they were coming in, so no more should be able to squeeze through. Yesterday I caught one in a trap like yours bacon - no more mercy! There is one left and I got these new traps that came this morning, I’ve just not had time to set them up....See MoreIt's not spring for me---until I see my hostas coming up!
Comments (40)Pots are a lot of work, and it is not always a success story. There are others with many more pots and I wonder how they do it! Many of my pots have begun to pip even though the weather is so cold. Most of the ones in the ground (except for undulata marginata) have not emerged. Your weather sounds awful MadPlanter. We're still cold too with today being in the mid to upper 30's and the nights around 30. I have been holding off taking the pots out of the storage well and other storage areas. After they come out, the next problem is critters. They start digging into the pots. With this spring being so cold and late, that probably means more digging. I generally try to keep them covered at night, and I think that helps. But I can only do that for so long. If they keep digging the same pot, I will put some pebbles on the media or find some mesh to cover them with. Wouldn't that be great if the slugs were reduced due to the awful weather? (Wishful thinking)...See Morenewhostalady Z6 ON, Canada
