Repair/Revive Trampled/Damaged St. Augustine

last modified: 3 years ago

This will be our 4th season with this St. Augustine sod, here in our backyard in Rancho Cucamonga, Zone 9b - just South of the 210 freeway.

With COVID and all of the stay at home orders, needless to say we had a lot more backyard time this past year.

Which means lots more foot traffic and water-play with the kiddos (inflatable pools, sprinklers, etc).

On top of that, we got a new puppy. And while we WERE able to train him to pee and poo on the side yard, the lawn is his play zone. Zoomies all day long!

Now that the St. Augustine is dormant[ish], it's sure looking more dead and dirt-patchy than I remember it getting in past years.. Perhaps even root rot?

Any advice on reviving it for the coming Spring? Should I fertilize? Continue watering? Keep the dog off of it completely?

Any help or insight would be much appreciated!
