What is it exactly you are painting black , and what material are the windows.I need to know why you have black velvet drapes right now there is no context so I have no idea what is in the space and are you planning on doing every window on that level?

@patricia - I bought the black velvet drapes to try and add a modern black and white touch but have since decided to paint white room white and possibly window sashes black and wondering if that means I should love drapes that were original means do and end.

Rachel, I understand what you want perfectly. I also like the black velvet.

the sashes black w/the white trim will look great. (and if they're vinyl, get the vinyl paint or a good primer. how to's to paint vinyl windows online. since it's interior, not a big deal. go for it)

Have fun! If you want to "up" the effect? Look into custom grids - a "two over two" look.....the first pic in Beth's comment above : )

Thanks all! Especially for pics, was having trouble find ones that had both trim and drapes with black sashes that I liked but those made me feel better about both. These windows have removable grids that we found in attic when we bought home, so we’ll just paint them black and snap them back on and voila!
