@millworkman, yes this is a 3d rendering of my house. They are black, it doesn’t show up as well in the photo.

There is no requirement to delete duplicate threads.

No but the replies get convoluted and many times duplicated, and the op very well may miss replies.

In my opinion the window trim needs to be black if going with black windows otherwise they look like holes in the façade and not finished.

I didn't say there was a "requirement" to delete duplicate posts, but Millworkman kindly explained why it stands to logical reason to do so. There are cross-posting options among these forum, you know.

If you are replacing windows, I prefer fewer window grids. (2 over 2 or 4 over 4).

I wasn’t planning on changing the existing windows on the first floor. what do there’s think. Should I change out all windows to 2 over 2 or 4 over 4? Also I’m not sure if the black windows are much more expensive than white. Could I just do black trim around the white windows?

Your windows really need to be the same. If you are not changing out the first floor WHITE window, then your new windows should be white. No. Don’t have two different colored windows on the facade of your home. They need to be the same. Don’t trim white windows black. All windows should be the same and trimmed out the same.

They should all match. Unless the white ones can be painted to match new black ones, you need to consider making a consistent statement on your home's facade.

And black are typically considerably more than white. And yes all windows really should be the same color.

Sorry I probably wasn’t clear. If I do black windows I would change out the bottom windows. Just wondering if I should consider changing the bottom and doing all 2 over 2 or 4 over 4? If black windows are considerably more I was thinking of painting the trim around the white windows black? Or should I do black shutters and black trim around the dormers windows?

No shutters anywhere on your home.

Black is considerably more than white and all windows need to be the same color.

I like the black and white...my house is all white with black windows (Andersen 400 Series) and garage door black.

Consider a full view front door...I chose 2/2. Love the light which comes into the hallway.

Are you adding the dormers? If so that design is all wrong for your home. Should be shed dormer if you desire all that headroom on the second floor. Really that low pitched gable on the house is so wrong and is not in keeping with the lovely simple design of the home.

I love your idea of dark windows on your house. It immediately adds dimension and depth. Always a concept to seek out in home design :)

@BeverlyFLADeziner i am adding the dormers and building over the garage. my architect said I will have much better ceiling height and less of a boxy look. I’d like others thoughts on the look of the house?

The shed dormer is much better for your house...

I know shed dormers are the “typical” dormers on capes but what do you all think of the way the house looks with these dormers? The celiling will be very high in what will be a rather small room. The shed dormer would have a low celiljng and make the room feel even smaller?

There is a reason shed dormers are typical on capes- they are in scale for the rest of the building. A gable front dormer overwhelms the first floor. Yes the roof line is higher but that isn’t always good especially in a small bedroom.

Capes are graceful classic homes. That strange hybrid dormer looks as if shoulder pads have been added. It's a great hulking mass over the front door.
