I wouldn't install a mis-matched window.

If your cabinets are going to be white-ish, I think the current door trim will still work.

The balance of the windows in your home appear white so I would leave this door white as well.

I would not install a door that is different from the rest of your home. You have to consider cohesiveness.

I would also consider if you will still be thrilled with a navy colored island in several years and/or you are willing to replace/paint it when you tire of it.

Removing the wall is a good idea and will be a great change!

Unless you are changing the entirety of the windows and doors....not sure I would change it.

Not unless all the windows will be black too. If you want some black do the drapes in a pattern with a bit of black and add something black for an accessory. I would also look a different table and choirs for the space IMO that espresso color always screams cheap Chinese stuff and a bit of color will make the space much nicer.

So here's a beautiful picture of black doors with all white windows by @garrettpnelson that was really my inspiration. Can't find an interior shot of this unfortunately. As @herbflavor mentioned, the black would be a more minimal frame than the white creating its own presence. Guess i'm still a bit timid!

Here is the difference.

All of the windows on this house have divided light, so consistency.

They have 3 black windows, more consistency.

You are talking about one window that is black and has divided light.

If you are interested in adding black and white elements, you can do that in other ways.

The updated door will in itself create impact and no need to go black (which will also look odd with the other windows).

Do you have the after pictures?

Why do you want black/ Because it is newish and trendy? How do you think it will go with the blue? Are there any other black elements in the kitchen - hardware for instance?

I would be careful about the three-pane patio door you are considering. If the panes are too narrow (meaning if you are intending to decrease the size of the individual panes that you currently have, in favor of adding a third pane) the divide can end up looking like prison bars that block a lot of the incoming liight and obstruct your view due to added trim around the individual panes. Also, consider how you will dress the wider door for light control and privacy--patio doors are often a challenge. Your current patio door doesn't line up at the top with the window above the sink, and the window in the adjacent living room? Maybe a taller patio door would work better than wider patio doors? If you have two-lite windows in the adjoining room I would keep it consistant, both in color and number of lites..

Well our project is mostly complete and we love it! We chose to go with a white patio door that was wider and higher. Here are some photos 😊

I think black trim w white walls is a fad... I would keep it white. We just replaced old doors with 81.5 x121 inch sliders-- it is beautiful in white. (Also- I do love black trim with red brick and I don't think white will ever go out of style ) good luck! Either way it will be Beautiful and make such a big difference
