I think it looks quite nice just the way it (now) is. It may just take a bit more time for you to get accustomed to the change. Each time a house in my neighborhood "de-shutters," which has been happening with growing frequency, I tend to think the naked windows look too small or indistinct. But then my visual memory of the shutters fades after a few weeks or months, and most of the time I stop thinking that the windows need extra emphasis.

You have two kinds of window in the front…the more modern ones under the front gable and the others double hung. When you say “inserts” you mean the mullions are removable? If so, do it. Now all windows are full view.

Shutters are only. appropriate when they fit properly, and even then, IMO, there is nothing worse than a vinyl shutter drilled to the siding.

BAD: Shutters are mounted to sides of window and flat against siding. They look flat and cheap. No shadows.

Good: Shutters are mounted on hinges on the window casing providing the appearance of being able to close. Depth and details are obvious.

My handyman would cover the current white metal work with black. He covered the one I started painting black with white and I'd never know except for the very slight depth difference which I know is there.

I was going to paint the door light blue, but it didn't look good with the black storm door, which is new. The old one would have been a challenge to paint because it had a half screen. The new one, though, allows me to take the insert out, so I can see painting that the same color as the door.

Right now, the door is soul sucking matte tricorn black. It looks much better with my planters at the sides of the door (light blue/aqua). I have one more coat to paint on the step so they're not in place.

I would do something interesting to the front steps.

You can even paint the riser a different color if you like but I like the black and white stripe.

Do a search for "black and white house with colorful door" and you will have a multitude of ideas for front door colors.

I think the house looks great but if you want to expand the appearance of the windows then install black shutters. I would size them larger than what you had before.

I know you just got rid of yellow on your house but have you considered a yellow door? It could be a homage to the old color and be a really great modern pop.

Here's a mock-up of black window trim. I'm not a fan of the extreme contrast here. Not sure I like it as much as say, black windows. Your windows look like they are in good condition and don't need replacing, so that doesn't seem like a viable option.

I was considering yellow as an alternative because the light above the door is (painted) black with a gold interior. Thanks for adding black for me (I did something crude on the SW website). The windows are relatively new and very efficient, so it doesn't make sense to replace them yet.

I think it looks great! No to shutters. Paint the door a color you love. Maybe add a tree or two to the front lawn. So glad you painted the brick.

No to black windows. It looks lovely, you really made a huge improvement in the curb appeal! If you have a green thumb you could do window boxes. Also some variation in height and color of the landscaping would go a long way. Agree w perhaps a colored front door and some attractive house numbers!

What color white did you use for exterior?

White on white looks good .
