What Is The Least Fragrant Of The Most Fragrant Roses?
Comments (17)I get very little scent from Sombreuil (the large-flowered climber). Occasionally its scent wafts down the side yard where it's planted, but that's it. SDLM is only faintly fragrant to me, too. Blush Noisette is said to be one of the most fragrant, and I barely get anything from it. My allergies diminish my sense of smell, I know. Visitors come to the cemetery rose garden declaring that the scent bowls them over as soon as they get out of the car, and I barely notice it. I had a few days of sinus clarity this spring, and was astonished at the fragrance. The damask scent, fortunately, penetrates my congestion, as do musks and a few of the teas. Comments (47)Oh no SoFl, I bought Sugar Moon on your recommendation and from smelling it in your garden..... I tried it and I liked it so much that I bought another one. Both of them are staying healthy. I really don't understand why some of the ones that do well here don't necessary do well for you and vice versa.... Maybe it is my salt air or something. I think you said you got rid of Regatta, IT is probably one of my best performers. However, I thought I killed it. Someone told me we should cut back to a third, I think I must have misunderstood and it was to be cut back only a third. For the longest time it was touch and go but it pulled through. Even in this heat it is looking good, no chilli thrips. When it blooms it blooms!!! Another one that I have that is healthy (from disease) is Outta the Blue. However, it does get spider mites If I keep washing it off it is also a big bloomer for me. I also have Dark Desire that is happy - no disease or insects. However, it is super super thorny and not a favorite in the garden. Believe it or not it is an own root . I do love the flowers in a vase if I feel like being attacked by her. I always feel like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz and the apple tree scene. Another one that I would claim that is pretty happy here in Florida is Distant Drums. She too is an own root. I figure it they do own root well here in Florida, it must be a toughie....See MoreYour Most Strongly and Consistently Fragrant Roses
Comments (55)BenT where would you place your Dream Time..... I see it doesn't make any of your tiers.... I am planning on getting it from your pictures alone, but so glad it is fragrant.... however, I can only hope to smell it I have Fragrant Cloud which everybody raves about and my husband loves it.... but I can't smell it.... mine or others... it won best fragrant at our rose show... but nada for me..... I also have Double Delight which I like the scent, but it is not overly strong to me.... but others who visit say WOW..... so I think there must be something wrong with my nose.... but that being said.... Neil Diamond one of my top scented roses... I have two because the first one I thought was a dud and grew backwards... now the 2nd one is doing the same.... so sad because I just love the fragrance and the rose itself but a terrible terrible bush for me... they are declining one stick wonders. Sugar Moon a WONDERFULLY powerful rose scent... but it too has problems. I have two of these bushes because one was mismarked as PJPII. This rose isn't a one cane wonder, but it does get canker easily.... I get lots of tropical winds and the canes seem damage very EASY .... other bushes of same size not so much.... but I sure love the scent. I won't remove SM because I love her scent.... and I debate on getting ND.... but you know the saying Fool Me Once... Fool Me Twice..... but maybe I am just an addict to Neils scent, because it is SO HARD to walk by him at a nursery. Sharifa Asma is my strongest scented David Austin.... I have Jude and Evelyn though neither seem to be super strong.... Outta the Blue is my strongest scented mauve. Nahema is also one of my top contenders....See MoreWhat are your most fragrant roses today? 2020
Comments (154)Carol: The peachy rose in my bouquet is Summer Samba floribunda (fruity scent). Stehapnie: My own-root Golden Celebration smells like cupcakes from the oven, it makes my house smells like a cross between a florist shop and a bakery (YUM). One bloom perfumes the entire kitchen. Crimson glory (hybrid tea) smells good on the bush, but the scent is gone after 1 day in the vase. I prefer Firefighter's scent that lasts until petals drop. For quality of scent, I place Gruss an Teplitz's spicy scent over Firefighter. Gruss is drought tolerant & likes heat. It blooms best when the weather is over 90 F. Gruss grows wild in Pakistan's hot & dry and alkaline sandy soil (learned that from Khalid, who used to post in Organic rose forum). Gruss an Teplitz is the father of Dr.Huey-rootstock, but the blooms are much prettier with amazing spicy scent (almost as good as Barcelona): Below is Gruss an Teplitz, a 10th-year own root in my zone 5 garden:...See Moresara_ann-z6bok
