Question my wife asked when I said I was buying a thermapen and possibly 2

SO... Do we?

You need two because you can never find one.

You could get one Thermapen and one ThermoPro. I have decided that I like the ThermoPro better, but I've only had it for a few months. I keep the ThermoPro in Los Angeles and the Thermapen in Cathedral City. We spend approximately equal amounts of time in either location.

Is there any vigorous growth going on or is the tree truly in senescence with not much life and canopy happening? If there is vigor then we can talk, if not there's little you can do besides giving it some nitrogen and water to see if it rebounds.

Yes, you could do like a hedge and help them support themselves but even at the beginning you may need to put some chicken wire to provide support. Since many times, rain that accumulates on the blooms is the culprit, a location where they get some protection from rain will help. That is what helps protect lone Annabelle. Now, the advantage of buying more is they all together can help each other is done like a hedge and, aesthethically, buying them all now, means that their height/width may now be in sync with each other. But if you wait until Spring, the new ones may be not as tall or not as wide as the one you just bought and well, -depending on your tastes- that may bother some people. Not a big deal to me and easy to fix but... I know some gardeners who would get bothered by something like that. Thanks everyone for your feedback and great advice! I am doing some of that already (shopping for both, scrapbooking/Pinterest/Houzz)so I guess I am on the right track. I will have stainless apppliance so that is a touch of gray. Unfortunately I don't have room for an island or a hutch. What I do know is that I am not a huge granite fan so that narrows things down a little. LOVE marble, but probably will go with a quartz. So this my thought process and the options I am considering: 1) Gray, maybe more like taupe or greige, cabs; white quartz counter - Misty Cararra, Torquay, Lagoon, Lyra; and a white or light bs. For example ... (I blame Michelle16 for this one! :)) or ... with ... 2) White cabs; gray counter - Caesartone Pebble; and ??? for bs (The gray and white lends itself nicely to pale blue - paint, bs, etc. While I like blues in my bedroom, I don't know that I want it in my kitchen, so I would need some other bs ideas) 3) White cabs; brown counter - Caesarstone Wild Rice; and ??? for bs (maybe this?) Not sure why those last few pics came out so small. Maybe a subliminal message that gray is the way to go :)

Which hosta do you have more than one of?

The only hosta I intentionally have more than one of is So Sweet. Others I have duplicates of: Irish Luck, because I thought the other one was dead Bridegroom, same reason. Dancing Queen, same reason. "Big Blue" because I divided it. Blue Mouse Ears because Cleo (my dog) mauled it and Blue Cadet and I couldn't determine which pieces where which hosta when I repotted them. All of the above will go in one pot when I repot this spring. Night before Christmas because my neighbor gave me hers when she moved to assisted living. I'll keep both. I'm thinking of splitting my oldest So Sweet and will keep all three. It's in about the biggest pot I can handle and it aesthetically looks like it's too big for the pot. It does not have that nice round shape anymore. It did well, though. I bought another Minuteman because it was so gorgeous I couldn't resist. I had a smaller one and a Patriot. Not sure whether I will keep all three or not. I'll wait and see how they do. I still have two Frances Williams I intended to re-home. I think I will try them one more season and see if an acidic fertilizer will help their looks. bk

Not sure why you’d need more than one. I’d take the money saved and put it towards a Smoke. Love that thing.

you need one of each type ... one that measures temp at a snapshot in time, and one you can attach to a thermometer as the temp changes

Yep, that would be the Smoke. It’s designed for smoking which I don’t do, so it comes with one probe for the air and one for the meat. I either use it that way to monitor my defective oven, or, I’ve bought additional meat probes so that I can monitor multiple roasts at a time. I bought one for my in-laws for Christmas recently, when they were on sale.

We have another ThermoPro that we use for our Big Green Egg, and it will measure the cooking temperature as well as the meat temperature remotely. This way we can monitor cooking from indoors or outdoors, depending on our whim.

Linda - Two examples:

I buy whole pork loin, cut into three, roast all three, eat one freeze two for SV reheat later. In fact I’m having one tonight. Might be the oven but these three fairly identical roasts on the same sheet pan finish at different times.

Leg of lamb - I’ve taken to separating them into the four main muscles so that I can remove the bulk of the fat and gristle. And get more charred crust. These are different sizes and finish cooking at different times.

I purchased one

She did find the ThermoPro while looking for what I was buying. She kept saying what's the difference that justifies the price difference. My response was I dont know buy one and we will see. So, she did and we will see

I have one. I am the only cook and would be using it on one item per meal. I use it on every piece of meat I cook.

Looking on Amazon, I'm not seeing the difference. Many things that look just like a Therma-pen are listed as Therma-pro. Reading this post, I got the idea that the Therma-pros would always have wire that goes outside the oven. Please explain what you all have?
