Handmade Home: Doilies for More Than Valentines
Make instant stencils, banners, gift packaging and more from doilies old and new
For as long as I can remember I have loved paper, and paper doilies are no exception. I perused an estate sale last weekend when a little box caught my eye. I opened it up, and much to my delight, it was filled with pretty antique paper doilies in different sizes and patterns! Needless to say, I snatched up the box for just a few dollars.
After Valentine's Day, paper doilies can be used for many other projects. Try adhering them to a blank canvas as part of a collage or adding them to a journal using Modge Podge. Don't worry if you can't find vintage ones — new doilies are readily available at craft stores in the baking aisle.

Valentine's Day gift packaging
Here, I used doilies as part of my packaging for Valentine's Day gifts. I filled vintage glassine envelopes with blank note cards, folded a doily over each, tied with twine and added a tag.

Don't forget other traditional uses of doilies, such as dressing up food on trays and dishes.
