In need of major help with LR color
Comments (4)I love Windham cream -I've used it in two houses! Blue or green would both be great with what you have -can you find a bluey-green that you both like? Benj Moore Palladian Blue (HC-144) might fit the bill. Sherwin Williams has a great paint strip, no. 31, which has Rainwashed SW6211 and Quietude SW 6212 that would both be nice too I think. My family room is green, (BM ....sage?). But honestly, though it's been up about 4 years, I think I was a bit tired of it after 2. I would have been happier long term with a bit of a lighter bluey-green I think. Lynn...See MorePlease help me decide how high to hang the drapes
Comments (44)I like to follow the rule of thirds. It is aesthetically pleasing. However, in this situation, I'm trying to figure out if the 1/3 point is the rod itself or the distance from the top of the panel to the ceiling. The difference is not that great, but could, I suppose, throw things off. Let me see if I can explain what I'm talking about. The distance between the top of the window casing and the ceiling is 14". One third of that is 4.66". The distance from the floor to the top of the window casing is 80". If I use the 84" panels and allow for about 1/2" clearance at the bottom, the top of the panel would be about 4 1/2" from the ceiling. BUT, if I want the rod to be 4 1/2" from the ceiling, then I need to purchase the 95" panels and shorten them and the top of the panel ends up about 6 1/2" from the ceiling! Does this make any sense? WWYD??? Now, let me show you what I think I'm going to use for the rod. Does it blend in with the wall enough? And which of these two colors do you think I should use? The one draped over the sofa is SAND and the other that I didn't bother to unfold from the way it was packaged (sorry about that) is IVORY. If you'd like to see the IVORY opened up, I can do that. SO MANY DECISIONS! I don't know why my pictures are larger than usual. I swear I resized them the same as all the others. Sorry....See MoreDo Your LR Drapes Match Sofa Color?
Comments (15)Beekeeperswife, I've seen that "match the wall" look. Hmmm. I'll think about that. See if I can get some tan swatches. jeannine, There is no brown. The chairs are dark red and dark green, and the sofa is green/red/navy. The carpet is gold with red flowers. The photo IS dark. There are windows on 3 sides though, 6 of them, so it's light all day. Checked out gold drapes originally, but the swatches that came were all so shiny. Too Dorothy Lamour! nettie, the colored valance is certainly a look that appeals to me, are they still popular? I know....the room's full of Victorian antiques....but it's not as though one gets rid of them after 30 years. Back in one of my previous homes I would have done the Morris wallpaper and burgandy velvet drapes. That's too much for this house. :) Is the link below what you mean? With maybe tan silk panels? Here is a link that might be useful: Vintage Valance...See MoreWorking On LR Need Help Pics
Comments (5)Linda, I love the fabric you chose. Moire is a favorite of mine, and the colors in the plaid are lovely. I can just see you doing the victory dance! LOL I feel like we only have pieces of information, so I am going to ask a few questions. It would also help to have pix of the whole room, or even a drawing of the floor plan so that we can tell what is going on in the entire space. What is the look you are trying to achieve - casual yet elegant? More french country but not as formal? Something else? If the cabinet has to stay where it is (and I am never convinced of that on the first shot, LOL) do you ever open the window? If not, you need to take down those draperies and put them on either side of the window by the chairs. I would Think about either doing a solid, closed panel of the fabric, or a large piece of artwork, or a shelving unit that sits on the cabinet, finished to match, that will completely hide the window. What you are doing with the side panels is drawing more attention to the window back there, rather than making it disappear. And disappear is what you want it to do as long as the cabinet is in front of it. What is on the wall behind the couch - another window like the one by the chairs? Do you need matching treatments for both sets of windows if that is the case, and do you have enough fabric to do it? Yes, I could easily see green in there. I would think about doing the couch in a pretty shade of green, or in a deeper shade of the wall color (which I couldn't find on the BM site - do you have the color number instead of the name - Millet didn't come up). Do the wing chair in a stripe of some kind. Maybe something like this? capulet stripe, bluebell Does the other large armchair stay? Does it need to be re-covered? Then perhaps this toile for some pillows for the couch and one lumbar pillow on the chair? rustic life, lake There is also Rustic Life, Porcelain, that might work, but may be too bright. As for roman shades, it would depend on whether you intend to have the plaid panels on those windows, and whether you need privacy, light control, or just a window treatment for looks. A rug is hard to suggest because I can't really see what your floors are now and how much space you are trying to cover. It also depends again on where you are headed style-wise. Of course, the fabric suggestions are just that- suggestions. Too hard to tell colors for sure on the monitor to know that they would match - but it gives you some ideas about what kinds of fabrics you might try to find. Once you get all those things in place, then you can also bring in more green in your accessories - and you already have some plants to help that along, too. Ad for the knobs on the cabinet, I would be inclined to choose a brushed metal finish of some kind - nickel, brass? What do you like, and have already in the room in things like lamps and pix frames?...See MoreYvonne Martin
