How would this banquette look better (pics)
Comments (25)Kitchenkelly I remember your "morgue drawers" from the kitchen forum but needed to refresh myself on your banquette so I pulled it up on FKB. You have the table I remember liking so much. Where is it from and how big is it? Newhomebuilder whether I go with paint or stain I will be doing it myself. I have 2 extra panels (beadboard from end of island) that came with slight damage so I could recycle those and match the stain. If I decide to paint I have some experience (and some paint/glaze)because I did the corbels (under the mantle above the stove) myself. I just couldn't pay $500 dollars for them. It was time consuming but doable. As there is a large dining table in the room already, I picture the area to be used only by myself and my husband. I want a space were I can see into the backyard. I like to garden :)...See MoreMixing Queen Anne Chairs & Hutch with Glass Table & Glass Console
Comments (20)I'm with pal and chijim. For the chairs, you need to go much older or much newer than what you have now. And I might choose an updated, bold floral, like Josef Frank, for either. Or paint the chairs, as chijim suggests, several shades darker than the wall color in a glossy finish. I think more uniform frames for the artwork in the room would help. I'd go with a more modern, simple frame, maybe dark wood or black. But no chrome accents on the frames. There seem to be a lot of smaller accents, and a lot of holiday/seasonal items on the various surfaces in the room, which I would remove/streamline. Consider something like a Dorothy Thorpe piece for the Dutch hutch, like this sterling rimmed cocktail set, and either a large blue and white English transferware/Delft/Asian or Imari bowl on the WS glass console (which you can fill with seasonal accents)....See MoreLooking for a short console table to go behind a short sofa
Comments (24)Bookcases are up! Or, at least two of them are ☺️ I ordered three, which would exactly fill this wall. But now I’m thinking maybe two is better: if I want the sofa centered on the fireplace (which I’m pretty sure I do), then the third might make the walkway from the living to the dining part of the room feel pinched. What do you think? I have lots of great art waiting to be hung, and I’m thinking maybe using the space on either side of the shelves for a painting or two, rather than adding the third set of shelves? Please excuse the messy table 😆 I‘d also be grateful for any thoughts about the styling — I put this together late at night, with lots of sentimental treasure that have been hanging out in inappropriate places around the house. I have other spots to display things, though, so if anything is out of place, it can be relocated (except for the baskets — there’s one of those for each of my kids for homeschool work; they like to work in the dining room lately, and I’m happy to give them space as long as everything goes back in the basket when they’re done). Comments (12)Hi HU, I agree that better lighting would be the top priority here. In addition to replacing the boob light fixture, there are some companies that will cut a hole in your door and add a glass insert, much less expensive than if you had to replace the whole unit. Your hallway is not that wide, so you might want to avoid furniture unless it is really needed, maybe just a narrow bench with space for boots underneath. You could then put art in the two niches (I wouldn't use mirrors because there is nothing for them to reflect). It depends on your style, but something with heavy texture like a wall hanging would warm up all the smooth surfaces in this room. Good luck, and I think it will look much better when you have moved in and there is something in the adjoining rooms for the eye to travel to....See Moreshirlpp
