Custom made would be lovely, I’m sure, but I’m already planning an expensive wall of built-ins, so my budget might not have that kind of room. Bookshelves are a great idea — thank you!

What about a vintage one it seems some furniture was much smaller in scale check out craigs list or local antique stores. With a vintage piece you might even be able to shorten the height if necessary

Jinx! That table is perfect! Our house is mid-centur, and our furniture is very collected and eclectic. What I shame I don’t live in Florida, because the shipping is just too much. I have been looking of Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace — haven’t found anything yet, but I’ll definitely keep my eyes open. Thank you!

If you haven’t already, you might want to look for Labarge, too ... they can be pricey at times, but I’ve seen some at local estate sales that were reasonable. This style has the measurements you need, for example:

You may consider cutting the legs down on an inexpensive table.

It’s straight for 60”, then curves.

Thanks for all the helpful advice! It’s not perfect, but for now I’m using a media console that I already had. I just took the legs off! It‘s a little wider and deeper than I would prefer, but it’s a big space, so the scale isn’t tragically off. It‘s not really “styled“ properly yet — I’m putting in a wall of bookcases in a couple weeks, and then I’ll have a big styling party with all my books and tchotchkes. I’ll update again, but here’s where I am now:

Do you really need something behind your sofa? I have to say, I find your sofa so charming; I wouldn't want to hide the back, especially since it's so nicely curved. Have you thought of a bench? That might be low and shallow enough? I'd style it minimally (a plant and short stacks of books?) so as to not impede the sofa view too much.

Bench below is 18'' H x 58'' W x 14'' D. I find it's a bit too angular for the curvy sofa but you've got a great eye so I'm sure you'd know how to style it harmoniously.

I like that bench, and can totally visualize it looking very cool in the room. I love the sofa, but I do think it needs something behind it — it’s a relatively small piece in a relatively large room, and I think a little more ballast and visual separation between the living and dining areas is helpful. But I‘m not wedded to this solution — it was quick and easy and cheap, but perhaps not permanent. The bookcases I ordered should be up in a couple weeks, so I’m going to leave it for now. Maybe with all the new shelving, the sofa will seem more proportional.

Don't get me wrong: your cabinet is gorgeous! And it does work. I just think I'm too enamoured with your sofa fabric to want something there :P Also, you're in the space so a much better judge than I as to whether or not the sofa needs something behind it. Hope you'll share your bookcases when you get them.

Bookcases are up! Or, at least two of them are ☺️ I ordered three, which would exactly fill this wall. But now I’m thinking maybe two is better: if I want the sofa centered on the fireplace (which I’m pretty sure I do), then the third might make the walkway from the living to the dining part of the room feel pinched. What do you think? I have lots of great art waiting to be hung, and I’m thinking maybe using the space on either side of the shelves for a painting or two, rather than adding the third set of shelves?

Please excuse the messy table 😆 I‘d also be grateful for any thoughts about the styling — I put this together late at night, with lots of sentimental treasure that have been hanging out in inappropriate places around the house. I have other spots to display things, though, so if anything is out of place, it can be relocated (except for the baskets — there’s one of those for each of my kids for homeschool work; they like to work in the dining room lately, and I’m happy to give them space as long as everything goes back in the basket when they’re done).
