Blue Eyed Daylilies still blooming
Comments (21)I've always had a thing for Texas Blue Eyes and always swore I was going to get it....but alas, I still don't have it. Maybe the name made me nervous (why would a Texas daylily want to move to New Hampshire and freeze to death...or maybe because my ex-husband lives in Texas...LOL). I can't hold the name against it because it's just so darn beautiful. I hope Maryotts still sells it and if I can hide some $$$ from DH maybe I can sneak a fall order in. HaHa. Comments (28)Mantis, Passion's Promise brings a smile to my face not only for its name but what a cheerful bloom. I love it ! and I agree with Brad on his comments on Morning Mood . How tall is MM by the way? You mention in your post " old Stamile daylilies" . Did he hybridize elsewhere other than Florida when he started out do you know ? And anyone know what year "old" Stamile cultivars became new Florida ones. I ask because I have tried to grow some Stamile's but more recent intros and they sure do not like it here. But Mantis you are in Ohio so similar growing conditions to me ( we are not that far from each other ) so I am wondering what the cut off time was between old and new so I can look for "old " Stamiles that just might do well here ....See MoreFavorite Eyed and Edged Daylilies of 2019
Comments (35)Wow there really are some beauties here . My eye is drawn to Sam Abell, Wickedly Wild and Wonderful , Snidely Whiplash , Red Eyed Fantasy , Soft Hearted Mother , Storm Shelter, Easter Egg Hunt , Incendiary , OMG Celebrate the Day (to die for) , Frank's Star of Bethlehem , and Brad's seedling , Thomas Tew , Purple Sombrero , Sunday Fever and Blue Jay Tapestry , Precious Candy, Moutain Wildflower and True Calling and Karen's seedling Boomerang Effect x Petes Electric Blue Beauty . That's quite the list and all have gone on my want list except for Brad and Karen's seedlings which is only because they aren't commercially available . I am gonna have to buy more land !...See MoreFavorite Eyed and Edged Daylilies of 2020
Comments (29)Kate - Thanks for comment about the Karelia seedling! I need to give it more space to see if can get more buds. Last season is had 15 buds on one scape and 12 on the other. I think it could do better than that if not surrounded by taller seedlings. It did increase to five fans last season, so I'm looking forward to more scapes next year. If you want to post more eyed and edged daylilies, go ahead. Our friends didn't have many. That's why I went overboard - to make up the difference, or maybe I'm just greedy. When I first started collecting daylilies, the watermarked ones and the ones with eyes and edges were my favorites. I still like them a lot, although I no longer add many of them.
