Comments (21)Debra - you do amazingly well. Focus stacking involves putting your camera on a tripod, then taking a series of photos with the focus on the front to the back of the field of daylilies (or birds). Using software, you can do layers to get a full focus across the entire field of view (or just the area you want in focus). This is tedious and really only practical with digital cameras but man it does make a normal lens photo look a lot like yours with the telephoto!...See MoreFavorite Reds of the 2019 Season
Comments (62)Wow, just gorgeous everyone! I am a bit behind with the posts as i was away the weekend for a conference. So many wonderful photos had been uploaded since. I totally agree with your sentiment, Signet! Hope you don't mind I copied and pasted it here as I feel exactly as you expressed regarding a good red daylily. " Real reds. I love a true red. Not a blue red , not a pink red but real reds . I don't think any other color can match a good red." Your seedlings are so beautiful, Debra! How do they hold up by the afternoon? Would love to see and hear more of them next year. Besides your seedlings, I also like Betty Bush and Francis Bugsby. Do these still look good by 1PM? I also like Reindeer Antlers, Rudy, and MARIETTA WARRIOR. I may look to add Mexican Maiden to my garden for its sunfast quality. Here are the favorites from my garden this year. Comments (47)Those are all pretty Nancy. The color on Flamboyant Diva is one of my new favorites. A lavender mauve. Especially fetching with the white edge...........Karen: Mia Bella of Gascone does fade some as the temperature climbs. This is it when it first opened on a cool day: Mia Bella of Gascone: There's that darned blotchiness I hate. But it did clear up as it bloomed later and later. But also as it bloomed later the heat showed up and the color faded to what I posted further up the line. Still pretty to me as a lighter red then the blotchiness was. If it hadn't had a good bud count I might have ended up with just the blotchy deep red ones. A fair trade off If you have to have one.........Sweetest Name I know is colorfast and sunfast (sunfast to me = color PLUS substance as opposed to just color). I put it in full sun until about 5PM during our high heat days and it looked pretty darned good. If you don't get over 95 much, it should do exceptionally well. It's just those over 95 degree days that are a real bear for some daylilies to deal with. The only purple I've had that could take it and still look reasonable is Mary's Baby. Why I love that one so..............Maryl...See MoreTop Ten Daylilies of 2020
Comments (25)How late is Heavenly Be My Lady? Once again here, lates took a beating from heat and dryness; it is, I think, to be expected with climate change. Always interesting to see what is growing well for others. I picked up Cancun Candy on Nancy's recommendation, and it was a joy. Of course, I love the earlier ones blooming in June, so fresh and exciting, and recently without the weather problems of lates. Tall Dark Stranger looks like an improved Russian Rhapsody, and it also blooms early. Some of the older Munsons and Moldovans are hard not to keep. Lord Chamberlain is a rich color, though not in a good location here. Paris Silk is a Munson that I cannot seem to give up. Impassioned is fairly young here, but I am not thrilled about the fact that flowers haven't been very flat. Generally, I like flat flowers (there are exceptions). I would be reluctant to recommend Just LIke Candy, which I have had for some time, and which has never had a good bud count. Flower is too small for me too. On the other hand, Impressionist Sky, also pictured by Nancy in recent years, was big and rich and vivid, with better bud count than last year. Almost every bloom on Glowing Quasar is perfect here and the scape much better than that of Bass Gibson. Bass Gibson, as usual, had some bad first flowers. Both, however, were excellent performers this year. People who saw them were wowed. It really was a good year here in general. Earlier rains gave a lift to bloom through about the first week of July. Then typically overbearing heat and dryness put a damper on the later ones. There were so many good ones, I couldn't begin to narrow it to 10 and don't have the time or energy right now. The energy of June is a distant memory....See MoreRelated Professionals
