Comments (33)Mantis, I have Tooth, and very happy with it. Mine is 32 to 34" tall, with a decent bud count. I don't seem to have a photo of it unfortunately, but around 15 bud count. I have in my notes that it had a couple scapes with just over 20 buds, i just noted the highest bud counts, but I don't remember the remaining being excessively fewer. That is very good in my garden. I have never seen much in the way of teeth on it though. Beautiful plants everyone, seeing so many I feel I really need....See MoreFavorite Reds of the 2019 Season
Comments (62)Wow, just gorgeous everyone! I am a bit behind with the posts as i was away the weekend for a conference. So many wonderful photos had been uploaded since. I totally agree with your sentiment, Signet! Hope you don't mind I copied and pasted it here as I feel exactly as you expressed regarding a good red daylily. " Real reds. I love a true red. Not a blue red , not a pink red but real reds . I don't think any other color can match a good red." Your seedlings are so beautiful, Debra! How do they hold up by the afternoon? Would love to see and hear more of them next year. Besides your seedlings, I also like Betty Bush and Francis Bugsby. Do these still look good by 1PM? I also like Reindeer Antlers, Rudy, and MARIETTA WARRIOR. I may look to add Mexican Maiden to my garden for its sunfast quality. Here are the favorites from my garden this year. Comments (43)Hi Celeste, honestly , I like it and I am not just saying that because I feel I have to now that I have said I like the weird ones. I like it for several reasons . One, because it has such subtle coloring . Now saying that , I also like daylilies that are very intense coloring but a yard full of intense colors needs something from which to bounce off . Two the contrasting midrib, I grow several that have odd colorings . Padmasana , Momentum , Pigment of Imagination , Olive's Odd One ,Spicecake etc. . Many would say these are " butt ugly" but I don't see that . I like the difference in these .. What I find " butt ugly " ( well not really butt ugly but boring ) are the round eyed daylilies ad infinitum . So when I see something like what you posted above that has so much going on in the bloom I would rather have that than a round pink daylily with some kind of eye . The shape of the daylily in your imageadds to the appeal . I also think that sometimes these kinds of daylilies are overlooked because we all fall victim to " the latest and greatest " as hyped by hybridizers . These oddballs have subtilties that an in your face daylily just can't provide. Above Padmasan below Spicecake...See MoreFavorite Eyed and Edged Daylilies of 2019
Comments (35)Wow there really are some beauties here . My eye is drawn to Sam Abell, Wickedly Wild and Wonderful , Snidely Whiplash , Red Eyed Fantasy , Soft Hearted Mother , Storm Shelter, Easter Egg Hunt , Incendiary , OMG Celebrate the Day (to die for) , Frank's Star of Bethlehem , and Brad's seedling , Thomas Tew , Purple Sombrero , Sunday Fever and Blue Jay Tapestry , Precious Candy, Moutain Wildflower and True Calling and Karen's seedling Boomerang Effect x Petes Electric Blue Beauty . That's quite the list and all have gone on my want list except for Brad and Karen's seedlings which is only because they aren't commercially available . I am gonna have to buy more land !...See Moreshive
