Favorite Eyed and Edged Daylilies
Comments (27)Lori - That's a nice group of eyed daylilies! Baja California would be one of many tied for my 6th place. It had a nice rebloom this year, but bud count was much lower than usual on that one, and it had short scapes this year for me. In past years, it has been the top performing eyed and edged cultivar in my garden. Baja California The Dominator did not fare well here in the past year. To begin with, it lost a fan over the winter, and there was no reason for that since the winter was so mild. Bud count was very low - 7 - and it did not rebloom. So, although the bloom is large and gorgeous, I won't be keeping it if performance does not improve next year. I started out with one large fan, and had two at the end of last year. It went back to one fan this spring. Now it has three. Romanian Rendevouz is really pretty in your garden. I had that one at one time, but lost it in a pot. As I recall, the petal color is one of those indescribible ones, but the eye color more than makes up for it. Kansas City Kicker and Thundercat are nice ones too! Comments (28)Mantis, Passion's Promise brings a smile to my face not only for its name but what a cheerful bloom. I love it ! and I agree with Brad on his comments on Morning Mood . How tall is MM by the way? You mention in your post " old Stamile daylilies" . Did he hybridize elsewhere other than Florida when he started out do you know ? And anyone know what year "old" Stamile cultivars became new Florida ones. I ask because I have tried to grow some Stamile's but more recent intros and they sure do not like it here. But Mantis you are in Ohio so similar growing conditions to me ( we are not that far from each other ) so I am wondering what the cut off time was between old and new so I can look for "old " Stamiles that just might do well here ....See MoreFavorite Edge No Eye Daylilies 2019
Comments (43)Yes Regency Heights is a real looker , if you have a chance to add it I highly recommend it I have had Regency Heights for a number of years . Then two years ago I dug it up mid summer to trade a piece and replanted . I am guessing the drought stressed it to the point that when winter came with no snow cover it succumbed due to my stupidity .. Replaced it last year as I had done back flips trying to track this one down originally. It is quite hardy but conditions here have been dreadful the last few years so I don;t dig mid summer anymore....See MoreFavorite Color Changing Daylilies 2019
Comments (23)Yup Debra , I am only now starting to collect bagel varieties ( more rounded ) as I started out with spiders and uf's and only recently added some doubles . I tried a couple just to see as I did not like the looks of them in pictures. Now they are growing on me ( literally and figuratively LOL ) I still haven't got many toothy ones or any with chicken fat I dont think . I Hope I live long enough to get some of those. LOL although my first love will always be UF's ....See Moresherrygirl zone5 N il
