Best Daylily Eyes with No Edge 2018
Comments (18)Cosmic Kaleidoscope is one I will just enjoy looking at, as I have not seen convincing Northern reports on it. I see that Belle Isle Sentry is a Moonlit Masquerade kid. Priscilla's Rainbow is lovely. Mount Herman Intrigue certainly calls attention. Roman Cohort deserves attention as it always has some nice blooms here. Recently divided, which may account for fewer buds. At 9:30 a.m., Houzz is not permitting any more pictures. Finally got another one. Paradise Bar and Grill took a good picture, but still fairly new in the garden. The Dream Society had this crisp late bloom. But scapes were somewhat shorter this year and may never be the registered height. Generally, I don't care for later bloomers, though rebloom is always welcome....See MoreTop Ten Favorite Daylilies of 2019
Comments (28)Mantis, Passion's Promise brings a smile to my face not only for its name but what a cheerful bloom. I love it ! and I agree with Brad on his comments on Morning Mood . How tall is MM by the way? You mention in your post " old Stamile daylilies" . Did he hybridize elsewhere other than Florida when he started out do you know ? And anyone know what year "old" Stamile cultivars became new Florida ones. I ask because I have tried to grow some Stamile's but more recent intros and they sure do not like it here. But Mantis you are in Ohio so similar growing conditions to me ( we are not that far from each other ) so I am wondering what the cut off time was between old and new so I can look for "old " Stamiles that just might do well here ....See MoreFavorite Daylilies That Defy Color Categories for 2019
Comments (43)Hi Celeste, honestly , I like it and I am not just saying that because I feel I have to now that I have said I like the weird ones. I like it for several reasons . One, because it has such subtle coloring . Now saying that , I also like daylilies that are very intense coloring but a yard full of intense colors needs something from which to bounce off . Two the contrasting midrib, I grow several that have odd colorings . Padmasana , Momentum , Pigment of Imagination , Olive's Odd One ,Spicecake etc. . Many would say these are " butt ugly" but I don't see that . I like the difference in these .. What I find " butt ugly " ( well not really butt ugly but boring ) are the round eyed daylilies ad infinitum . So when I see something like what you posted above that has so much going on in the bloom I would rather have that than a round pink daylily with some kind of eye . The shape of the daylily in your imageadds to the appeal . I also think that sometimes these kinds of daylilies are overlooked because we all fall victim to " the latest and greatest " as hyped by hybridizers . These oddballs have subtilties that an in your face daylily just can't provide. Above Padmasan below Spicecake...See MoreFavorite Bicolor and Bitone Daylilies of 2019
Comments (39)Thanks, Nancy for posting a pic of your seedling. Not sure whether your seedling takes after RR or CHarmed Existence because the pollen parent is a bitone too. Nancy and Signet, you are very kind! Wolverine X Van Helsing has nice branching and maybe 20+ buds. The only problem is that it is a late bloomer and blooms a lot at once so its bloom season lasts about 2 weeks. I have yet to see rebloom on it but it is currently in the seedling bed which is not a good place for it being crowded and competed with weeds and tree roots. Next year when I move it out, I hope it will show some rebloom. I have found that drought definitely dampens the chance for rebloom. Thanks Sherry for posting Little Jetsetter's size. I am a bit confused. Is it 15" or 3 1/4" ? Anyway, I love your pic of it and I really like to add it to my garden. Celeste, I somehow miss Lotus Position. That's a beautiful one too! Love its name!...See Moreshive
