NOID daylilies 2019
Comments (35)Signet, I have Christmas Is in another part of the garden. This is not that one although similar. Reds are like yellow-so many thousands out there and so many look alikes. I am sure that invoice is somewhere because I bought this one about 6-7 years ago. It was not a newer expensive lily but when one visits a daylily garden, there are some that just scream at you across the garden. This was one such clump-people were racing across the garden to look at it. I remember hearing a speaker at a garden function years ago talk about his Daylilies. He said he spent thousands of dollars on the newest and fluffliest and rufflilied (his words!) daylilies and every garden visit the most oohed and ahhhhed over lily was the old Sallie Farley! Comments (43)Hi Celeste, honestly , I like it and I am not just saying that because I feel I have to now that I have said I like the weird ones. I like it for several reasons . One, because it has such subtle coloring . Now saying that , I also like daylilies that are very intense coloring but a yard full of intense colors needs something from which to bounce off . Two the contrasting midrib, I grow several that have odd colorings . Padmasana , Momentum , Pigment of Imagination , Olive's Odd One ,Spicecake etc. . Many would say these are " butt ugly" but I don't see that . I like the difference in these .. What I find " butt ugly " ( well not really butt ugly but boring ) are the round eyed daylilies ad infinitum . So when I see something like what you posted above that has so much going on in the bloom I would rather have that than a round pink daylily with some kind of eye . The shape of the daylily in your imageadds to the appeal . I also think that sometimes these kinds of daylilies are overlooked because we all fall victim to " the latest and greatest " as hyped by hybridizers . These oddballs have subtilties that an in your face daylily just can't provide. Above Padmasan below Spicecake...See MoreFavorite Color Changing Daylilies 2019
Comments (23)Yup Debra , I am only now starting to collect bagel varieties ( more rounded ) as I started out with spiders and uf's and only recently added some doubles . I tried a couple just to see as I did not like the looks of them in pictures. Now they are growing on me ( literally and figuratively LOL ) I still haven't got many toothy ones or any with chicken fat I dont think . I Hope I live long enough to get some of those. LOL although my first love will always be UF's ....See MoreFavorite Bitones and Bicolors of 2020
Comments (25)All of these are beautiful. I do love a good bitone. Simple Charming is such a beauty. It's too bad that it's not readily available. The Salters just do not list their older varieties on their webside. Stephanie Returns is another that catches my eye. I am intrigued by reverse bicolors. We grow quite a few but I don't have the time right now to post very many. I am posting the ones that are new to the garden this year. I will post more later. Una de Gato was planted fall of 2019 and came through the winter fine. For those who know Spanish, the translation is Cat's Claw. There should be that little squiggly line over the n but for some reason the database can't include it. Impassioned was new this spring. I think it is a very pretty rose pink. Kerfuffle was also new this season. It is a small flower and a reverse bicolor. I am really excited about this one. Call off the Search was not new this year. It's a good performer here. I'll post some more later. Nancy...See Moreshive
