Hi - whichever colour you choose I would suggest pulling it up over the walls and on to the ceiling. It will help blur the boundaries of the beams etc.and add to a sense of airiness.

I meant to post something a couple of days ago, but life got away from me.

It may help you to understand why the white didn't work. In very simple terms white needs light to shine. The pictures we see on the internet of beautiful white rooms often have studio lighting that we simply don't have in our homes.

When we have less than ideal light it is better to pick something with a higher chroma and a bit more depth.

Here are a few ideas - some more subdued, some with more color. If something is too bright, but you like the combination you can do smaller doses of a brighter color.

You’ve done such a nice job already, I love your room. Hopefully you find the perfect paint colour.

As of now since I do want something neutral still I’m thinking of sampling BM Balboa Mist & Horizon. Love all these suggestions though, thank you!

Both colors that you picked are very light neutrals but Horizon is a blue gray and Balboa Mist is actually a light taupe and will have some pink/purple undertones.

If you want to stay neutral and have the creams and olive and grays I may be more inclined to go with November Rain, Ashwood, Gray Mist or Natural Cream.

gregory, try Kendall Charcoal behind the bed. the lower wall. for the ceiling, try a brighter white. Decorators White might work, or Oxford white. Oxford is slightly whiter than Simply, and has a grayer undertone.

or try one of these for the darker parts. use the brighter white on the ceiling and other wall

Get yourself a sample jar in eggshell and try it. It's only paint. not a big deal to cover it up if you don't like it. (but you will)

if you want a light gray, try Shoreline. you could even pair this w/the darker color behind the bed. Or, just do all of the walls in it. bright white on the ceiling.

My concern was Kendall Charcoal leaning too farm house style but it does look like it can go modern too, here it is pictured with a bed similar to mine.

your room isn't the least bit farmhouse. it's the furniture that makes the look, not the color.

trust me. it will be fine.

my only concern is that it's too close to the bed color. that's why I mentioned getting Whale Gray, or even Wrought Iron, to go a bit darker than the bed.

I love the one w/the wall trim and the rug like yours. Go darker to get that look on your walls. BM Wrought Iron. do some of those leather (or velvet) pillows on the bed. the color looks amazing w/the charcoal/blacks and wood tones

another two tone. you could bring in some navy, or navy-gray pillows or a throw. do some black and white art work. and a leather moroccan pouf!

Ooh yeah I like that a lot! I liked Kendall Charcoal because my sconces are black. I’m afraid of going too dark with the wall color. Another dark color I liked was Broadway by Behr.

LOVE THAT! The bench is super cool too but a few months ago I bought two of these chairs by Article called the Lento chair and I currently have these in front of the bed.

you do have a lot of dark elements. If you go w/the dark behind the bed, the brighter white should offset all of it. I'd prob switch out your pillows to something lighter. your casement windows are beautiful.

gregory, yes. try the dark first, and then the brighter white sample next to it. Chantilly may look too minty in your room. Try one of the other whites like super white or Oxford.

do an eggshell finish. for the trim, do a semi-gloss. (and you can use the base white straight from the can for your trim.)

heck, you can even use the base for the walls. but try the super white or oxford for the walls. you can do the same for trim if you like, just get a diff finish for baseboards or window trim.

that deep mustard throw in the pic above would be a nice accent. or get one in the Cognac shade

I do like the black and white vibe you have going but wouldn't add much, if any, more black.

Would definitely want to keep the walls really light in a north facing room so you can keep the furnishings you choose --even dark ones -- and yet not end up with a cave vibe.

Would not use wall paper.

Strategically placing a mirror can reflect outdoor light from the windows. Might invest in a stand for it ( or create one DIY) and try it in different places.

Go for it! I’ve used it in four different rooms at two houses and never had regrets.
