I don't think you can update stone... It is a bit of melting pot of styles, isn't it? The roof seems to go with the stone, but neither of those things go with the rest of the house. The star needs to go and you need a new light. Different paint would do a lot, but I would see about removing the stone and adding wood...I doubt you could match the brick, and I think wood would be a better choice anyway...something like the vertical panels on this house...

I would suggest adding a wide band of trim just above where the tops of the columns meet the wall. This should give the illusion of a beam being supported by the columns. The columns seem a bit undersized. I think I would replace them but instead of plain square columns I would give them a brick base with a brick or stone cap. I "might" suggest painting the entire house the same color - brick and siding but you should really give some thought to that. Once painted, brick can never be unpainted. It is a lovely house and a great lot. I LOVE the mature trees. Good luck!

I can’t even see the entry so IMO start by adding a walkway from the street (ideally) or from the driveway to the front door . This can easily become MCM but needs a plan and I need pictures in better light to see the stone or brick and the windows closer up. Is that a curved window and take the sutters off for sure. That scallop detail has to go and what is the materila above the windows on the right. Better pics please . I do see the walkway from the driveway so maybe take a pic from the driveway too. If that is a bow window IMO it needs to bereplaced with a picture window flat to start. I think maybe share a budget too.This one of my fave MCM exteriors to give you some inspiration.

Really nice home and yard as is, including the classic colors of siding and trim. Most of us have a budget for such things as updating our home and if you don't want to spend money unnecessarily, decide if altering the windows or storm windows is needed or just a decor update. If what you want is an "update" for the sake of appearance, consider addressing the "dark" front door/entry. instead of changing/replacing what works. If you could lift the porch roof on the entry door side and create a forward facing gable with its ridge immediately beneath the window where the shed roof now begins (and, perhaps, leave the front of that gable "open"*), that would be the beginning of both creating more focus on your primary entry and giving it more light. hen consider updating the front exterior wall beneath the front porch roof to help it be a more light and welcoming space. You could paint the siding on that wall a lighter color or replace/face that wall with a light brick or stone veneer or much lighter vertical siding -- enhancing the focus and lighter look of the entry.
