any color ideas for this beamed ceiling? pic included
Comments (13)I would try leaving the beams alone and painting the rest of the ceiling a darker color, maybe squirrel tail? (Benjamin Moore shows squirrel tail as a color that goes with dove wing). I think that would lessen the contrast between the beams and the ceiling so the beams don't stand out as much and help lower the ceiling visually. I would really hesitate to paint the beams as they are so lovely as is and it would be very difficult to go back once you have painted them. I would make painting them a last resort....See Morecathedral ceiling with exposed beams - help
Comments (9)I'll look into the j-boxes, but I am pretty sure we cannot even do that. Currently we have one chandelier hanging in the kitchen (you can sort of see it in the picture), and we will be using that box to base the track from which to hang pendants over our island. I think the problem is that there is no access to place boxes anywhere else in the ceiling. You would have to cut out the planking to add the boxes, and how would you run the wiring to get to the boxes? I love the idea of putting in skylights, but it just isn't in the budget right now - and I am worried about leaking as well. This whole project was triggered by ice damming from last winter - the ice melted into the kitchen and down the exterior wall into the basement. We will look into the above cabinet lighting. Any suggestions on type? More LED? What about track lighting systems? perhaps one on the wall side of the ceiling next to each beam? In the picture, you can see we have a track on the bottom of the middle beam already. The track heads are not the best (plenty of light, but blinding when sitting in the living room). This picture was taken on a very sunny day - few and far between here....See MoreColor of Wood Ceiling Beams
Comments (1)So like if you put accents on the ceiling, it should be worth looking up. Despite the ceiling nearly having no functional living style(every ceiling is like that )....It should be a pop factor. Overall: Darker.:High gloss: My style is that you start with base dark color and then decide the neon-bright color in the wood.... and mix that into **transparent polyurethane or lacquer.. whatever. UTC dyes. for example. It should remain transparent. Then you layer it onto the dark beam Just enough to get a sense of the highlight color. Adding a clear layer or more between color layers will allow daylight to bounce around in there. If you like black light fx then you can soak shaped dark fabric in high phosphor detergent (dry it) and then seal it into the beam with clear urethane. Test this second feature out first. . Hope it helps you get ideas....See Moreceiling bulkheads/beams-wall or ceiling paint colour??
Comments (7)I think with the beams I would go with one color for walls and ceilings. It does not have to be white. What you need to know is what are your favorite color combinations and what neutral and what white you like with your colors. I think your bay window could really stand out with a contrasting trim. It would draw your attention to the window and the beams can fade into the room color. Pick colors you love, know how you want to incorporate those colors in your design, then pick a neutral, pastel or white that works with your colors. As long as the color combination makes your heart sing that is all that really matters....See MoreJennifer J
