What flooring did you do in your finished basement?
Comments (38)I did our basement floor with Delta-FL (like dricore but all plastic) as a "subfloor" and Allure linoleum floating floor from HD. It meets requirements (cheap tough dry play room) but it is not a proper installation. The delta product wants a sub floor if the laminate is not used. Because the floor does not have a proper subfloor it is really soft - which is great for 4 young kids banging their heads, but not for heavy furnature feet. We have had problems with water in the basement. I have made some changes outside (grading and downspouts) that I hope fixes the problem. However, I still plan to have water down there at somepoint. The Delta keeps the floor off the concrete and a sump pump makes sure it gets rid of any water that might accumilate. If the pump fails or some other problem and the basement floods, the linoleum is water proof. Delta is $0.51/sq ft and the Allure was $1.67/sq ft....See Morea tale of two basement floors...please finish it?
Comments (11)great options to think about! thank you! lisa and lyfia...i didn't know engineered wood could be refinished! thats why i don't like it (or didn't lol) because i thought it was a one shot wonder. i'm looking into the pros and cons of cork :) i used to have berber but dh hates it (goofball prejudice like mine for engineered wood) but that explaination actually kind of shows that aside from orientals...it;s about the only reasonable option for play. foam squares lol....we always put about 200 of them out on the cement out front for ds and the neighbor girl. i'm not sure i can face more inside lol! os...i'm in complete understanding on that carpet issue. i always have significant issues with new carpet myself. i'm going to have to research that option, because frankly, i've never seen anything like that in a carpet store. one reason i like the wood, verses carpet is frankly the cats. the little furballs are so much easier to deal with on wood than carpet! if we do carpets over a wood floor, they'll be high quality natural fiber carpets. the way the room is shaper, we could do a rectangle and a square and leave just a foot or so on the perimiter. oh and tile....lovely idea, but not so much used in alaska because of the earthquakes. we have more annually here than the balance of the US combined. we often have 5+ and at least one 6 per year as well as a 7 here or there. no one here uses tile in large expances because it crack so badly during the shaking. our place is worse because of the pilings (which are a good thing because they take most of the shock). :( which is too bad because i could have some fun doing wonderful tile down there. i'm off to research! i have to let the gc know we're making a change! i just don't know what to lol!!! i love this forum! i have lots of new ideas now :) its great to put millions of creative minds to work! i can't wait to start the remodel mockups for the rental and have ya'll vote on which walls to move lol...See MoreUgh.. Comments (52)I received a boat load of colors from Elisa and am thinking I'll go with Black because honestly none of them go well with the things I hold them up to in my home. I will need to bring some of my antiques and fabric into the mix because I've done the boring white kithen and need to mix it up. Anyhow, thanks for all of the input. I had five minutes and put a few things into Olioboard. Marcolo is right it's looking Edwardian but I think I can just live with that deviation from the overall style of the house. I think I'll need to make sure the white is not too stark and I'm going to do a hand painted finish which I hope helps... Thoughts are still appreciated!...See MoreWHY IS GRAY SO HARD?!?! help
Comments (291)I didn’t necessarily change my mind about the wedding pictures over the bed - I just happened upon that picture and really liked it. It combines some of my favorite things - the mountains and the sky, with the water - my favorite surroundings - (I even named my daughters Skye and River) - my favorite colors, and it has an Impressionism feel, which is my preference for art. It has everything I love in one picture! It didn’t even occur to me to that it had a modern feel! Lol - oh well. I do still have the nightstands. I’m keeping them for now and will replace them once I raise my bed....See Moredanit21
