Comments (4)The 36" NXR is available from Costco online and a number of vendors for $2999, delivered to your curb or garage. There are numbers of very detailed threads here about NXR stoves. Most posters have the 30" models ($1999 delivered.) The difference between the 30" and 36" stoves is basically size: the 36" is wider, so it has two more burners and a bigger oven, as you would expect. The 36" can be had with four burners and a griddle or six burners. (Several of us NXR owners have commented that it would be far better to get the six burner model and buy a large carbon steel griddle which you use when you want one and remove when you do not. (Chef-King is brand most often recommended in the threads here.) For a view of an installed 36" NXR see Alex Nerland's write up from Fine Homebuilding on a kitchen remodel in a Victorian house. The link is below. The NXR uses dual-stacked (two ring) sealed Isphording burners. Same maker as those used on Wolf dual-fuel stoves and, I think, DCS ranges The burners sit in wells deeper than on major maker stoves, so spills rarely bake on. In turn, that makes the top far easier to clean than is common with major brand stoves. Wokking? How wok-centric (or snobby) are you? If you are somebody who wants restaurant-style wokking, then many of us would say you should get a 50k propane-fired turkey frying stand and wok-out in the back yard. If you are interested in the NXR, do a search here --- use the bottom of the page search box, not the top one --- and you will find a lot of very informative discussion. Comments (8)American Range, If you are interested I would call them directly to see about local sales and service 888-753-9898.Their website does not update regularly. Maybe every two years. Nobody "needs" anything more than a $1K gas range. Virtually everybody can use the power AND evenness of a powerful open burner. Thermador 18k btu star burners are pretty good, better than most standard sealed burners, but American Range and Bluestar are in a different category. When boiling water it is obvious power is good but when frying high power is also helpful. When you drop cold food into hot oil it drops the temp so you are paraboiling and your food is absorbing oil instead of the oil crisping the outside and simply cooking the inside with energy/heat transfer. Searing, sautéing, and woking also much improved. You sear steak carmalized brown/black without grey meat. Woking without making your veggies mush boiling in water released by the vegetables themselves. Which brings me to my next recommendation up the price scale Bluestar RNB. About 1k more than AR but has continuous grates and is able to take a full pan sheet as well. If AR is off the options list for about $3k is GE Café 30" gas range. These are made in Mexico and have circuit boards or "computers." Next downs is NXR. Chinese company and Chinese made. Allegedly they buy many premium components from Europe and North America, ship them to China, assemble them with Chinese made frames and sheet metal then ship them back to America for $2k retail. Several fan threads on these ranges on GW. I have my doubts but you can read those threads yourself and come your own conclusion. If you want a rec for a $1.5k range without convection. Frigidaire Gallery Series FGGF301DNF double oven with one 17k btu and one 9.5k btu burner. Probably can find for a few hundred under $1.5k....See MorePlease help me pick a BlueStar range color
Comments (23)Skoo -- I hate to rain on your parade, but to prevent a future problem... Costa Esmeralda has simply got to be some of the prettiest granite on the planet. That is, many slabs of Costa Esmeralda are; others can vary from disappointing to downright frightening. So until you pick out YOUR slabs of Costa Esmeralda, you don't know if the slabs your yard will have when the time comes will be grey-green, aqua-green, mint-green, 'where's-the-green?' green, lemongrass-green, or puke-green. Which makes Costa Esmeralda a uniquely poor granite to plan colors around. You may be thinking "Well, I'll just buy these slabs now" to guarantee you'll get the colors you want (need). And if you have a place at your house to store the slabs until you're ready to use them, this is a viable strategy. You'll run the risk of the slabs getting damaged in multiple transits, or possibly cracking in a freeze-thaw thing. But if you have the slabs in a place you control -- then go ahead. But do NOT rely on writing your name on some slabs -- even if you pay for them now -- then leaving them with the stone yard or fabricator. Because slabs are sold out from under you SO OFTEN that it's more the rule than the exception. Do a search here for "They sold my slabs!" and you'll see what I mean. Here's some Costa Esmeralda:...See MoreHelp me pick a range!
Comments (13)I would recommend induction and then sort through the various options. After a lot of consideration, my wife decided on the new Bosch range. For various reasons the others were scratched off the list. I think the Bosch is rather homely but my wife is ok with the looks and she wanted digital controls for the easy cleanup. The Elux slide-in is made for right handers and I am left handed. The Miele is way over priced for the features (unless you are buying for the M-Touch and for status), the induction unit is out dated. I love the looks of the Fulgor Milano but it is a rather ordinary range beautifully designed (if looks are the only consideration get one). The KA is not much better looking than the Bosch (it is cheaper though) but doesn't offer FlexInduction so the Bosch won. In a few years, we will revisit the range offerings and maybe Fulgor Milano or some other aesthetically superior range will offer a more updated functionality....See Morewritersblock (9b/10a)
