Comments (8)I'd be pretty impressed if a heating bill in Indianapolis was $400 a year - but it also probably isn't over $1000. I guess I should say that all these upgrades seems like a good idea but the price may be an issue. All upgrades on production builders are profit items. Sometimes at ridiculous markups. But I think 5% is worth $500, upgraded seer is worth $800, upgraded attic is worth $300, and wall sheathing (assuming r-4) is worth $800. That is pretty close to $3k so I don't think the price is out of line. These are all rough guesses and the attic is "worth" more than $300. Your sq footage might help to figure the value of the upgrade. Also ceiling heights. If this is a 1000 sq ft house, then the price is way out of line but if it is 3000 - then it is a great price....See MoreWhat order should I do these upgrades?
Comments (7)I remember a few years ago, when I decided to put up wallpaper in a powder room. I also decided to put up white ceiling trim. I deduced that it would be easiest to do things in this order: Put up the wallpaper. Paint the trim while it was down. Cut the trim. Put up the trim. My husband went ballistic. He could not understand how I could put up the wallpaper first. His reason: If we hired contractors, they would put up the wallpaper last. It was SO difficult to make him see that the contractor's process was not the easiest process for me. I mean, really. Of you have the opportunity to paint the ceiling trim BEFORE you put it up, who wouldn't do that? Sheesh....See MoreShould I Replace My Hardwood Floors In Kitchen (and adjacent foyer)?
Comments (15)Not yet, though it's only been 8 months that we've had the tile. Maybe it's mind over matter: we love our tile! :) We also aren't cruising around barefoot all the time, and I don't do a lot of standing in one spot for extended periods. I've often heard the issues that you mentioned, but I sometimes wonder if part of the problems aren't due to individuals' poor posture, sinks/faucets/cooktops not being properly positioned (i.e., too far forward), etc. My elderly mom complained of her hard floors starting to bother her legs, so I picked up a couple of those foam floor mats -- she finds them very cushy, and they've helped greatly....See Moremaria Z
