Mid Century Modern help needed (long; lots of photos)
Comments (132)That is pretty, flyleft. I think the reasons it works are the very high ceiling, the continuing brick work on the wall surrounding the mantel, and the raised hearth. Although that vertical brick makes me wonder about maybe doing stone of some sort in a vertical brick pattern instead of the square limestone tiles. Too trendy perhaps?...See MoreMid Century Modern open floor plan...design ideas? Please help me!!!!!
Comments (6)This is my living room....11ft wide by 19ft long (from the stairwell.) We are struggling to find a furniture plan that will work with this long and open living room. The picture is taken from the front door entry. On the left wall (which you cannot see) is a large living room window 4'x8'. We are hoping to have a built-in constructed wall to wall on the far end of the living room. Cabinets on the bottom, shelving on the top, and an opening for our media. We need the storage for our young family of five. Around the stairwell to the right is an open doorway to the kitchen. On the far back right is the dining room--which is open to the kitchen. Right now we have a very small sofa (~50") floating at the closer end of the room. Two chairs are to the left under the window. It works but it feels like a waiting room! I'd like to have a console table on the narrow wall to the right (between the opening to the dining room and walkway to the kitchen.) I'd like to have this room sit 4-5 people as we're planning on finishing the basement to represent more of a lounge space for the family....See MoreAny ideas on how to make exterior look more mid-century modern?
Comments (2)How much do you want to spend? or DIY? The carport is the overwhelming feature right now. Do you need it as a carport, or are you open to converting it to another use, like a sunroom or even just a covered porch? I think one thing that might work to reduce the impact of the carport but still keep it, is to remove the large filled in triangle below the carport roof, and replace it with a few horizontal wood beams, either stained or painted. Add some MCM looking wood trim around the doors and windows too, stained or painted to match. Add some stone looking cladding to match the house on the support columns. I think a color like the one on this house would look good -- with all the trim in either weathered wood, black, or cream as pictured...See MoreHow can I make my home's exterior look more mid century modern?
Comments (5)I don't like the dark paint. With your light roof and light stone it looks like someone tied a dark green ribbon around the top of your house. A lighter color would be an improvement. I dislike the planters and would remove them if possible. I would remove the rail if it is not needed for safety. It is probably original but it makes the door seem inaccessible You can buy a full view storm door and paint it and the house door the same color. I love your lamp post. Do you have a porch light? I made an amateurish image of a lighter house with no planters. Do you think the stone is original?...See MoreHU-187528210
