Please help - Best location in our living room for TV?
Comments (2)Does your TV have to be in the living room? I don't know your layout, but since that's the room that opens to the kitchen, what if you made it your dining room, with your china cabinet on one short wall and your sideboard on the other, and turned your dining room into a den and TV room? Would your way of living work with such an arrangement?...See MoreTv wall in living room
Comments (41)You know what? You have the wrong accent wall! Can you repaint that side wall to match the rest of the room and make your TV wall an accent wall? Same color, different wall. You could also arrange some of those art works on the new accent wall . . . or not. Here's a setup that camouflages the width with both a dark accent wall and the floating shelves. I do think a wood piece below TV on an accent wall might look amazing. Sometimes some great pieces show up on Craigslist if you search for "sideboard" "console" "buffet....See MorePlease help with my living room TV set up
Comments (49)The issue is the scale. A large TV always hogs a room and becomes THE focal point becasue black is a grounding colour. It is also hung too high, shrinking your ceiling height, visually. Luckily, theres an easy and cheap remedy - PAINT! Dark colours are really trendy now, so you can do a feature wall to disguise the TV altogether. A charcoal, dark navy, or deep eggplant colour could all be solutions. a favourite of mine is Iron Mountain by Benjamin Moore. Replace the miniscule shelves with a set of thick floating shelves in a similar light wood finish to match your console, on either side of the TV for your artwork and small plants. This will draw the eye outward, to balance the scale of the room, without compromising your footprint of floorspace (and keep your current console and pet tent). Anchor the room with a light rug in a jute or other natural material. this should run in front of the console and sofa, to be an appropriate scale for the room. Since your sofa (chair?) is dark, you will need to dress with some light cushions and throws so you don’t have dark furniture layered against dark paint....See MoreVery narrow living room (pic in the comments)
Comments (9)Not sure how long your room is, however, this might be a floor plan that will work for you. Locate the sofa on the opposite wall with the two high bookcases on either side. Paint can go a long way, consider painting the bookcases and wall behind the sofa the same color. Art above the sofa and wall sconces for lighting. Ikea has simple wall sconces that don't have to be hard wired and just plug in. Add two small tables on either side of the sofa in front of the bookcases. See plan. You might have room for a pull up chair, could be any good or fun design. (craigslist is perfect for good finds.) Opposite the sofa: a console with the tv above. Two large mirrors on either side of the console to visually widen the room. At the window, consider a 60" x 27" table top extending from the corner. Attach the corner of the top with angles and one pedestal at the end. I have designed many NYC apartments which are always tight on space. This solution gives you a good size top and interesting dining solution. Below is a table on an angle being installed right now. If the dimensions look wrong, you an correct the dimensions of the room and I can revise if it helps. The trick is for the design to balance the space and not just line it all up. You can really pull this together and have it exciting and functional. Hope this helps. Bookcases on either side of sofa with art above: Full height mirrors on either side of fireplace-- which would be your console and TV This is a design project being install with the dining table coming from the corner on an angle. It's a very small room....See Morejck910
