Yes, because the axis of the room seems to run parallel to the light cove, I'm recommending the furniture be arranged that way also. Of course this may be out of scale and some how not work with adjacent rooms, but it's my take on your situation. Doesn't cost you a dime to move furniture around and try it out. I just like to have my chandeliers some how align with tables or seating arrangements. Sorry drawing is half plan / half wall elevation, but you get the point.

So you agree with the coffee table/end table they are scheduled to be returned- it was too much white and my husband hated them. I needed some suggestions for coffee/end table look. I agree with jck910..about the rug but if you want your sofa in the same place, TV should go on the left side of the fireplace. If you have room for your sofa to face the back wall, then put your TV on the right side of the fireplace. I am not sure how much room you would have with the door where it is if you put the sofa facing the back wall. My son has a corner fireplace....difficult to arrange furniture around one. As for coffee table, depends on lamps/end tables and etc. Wait for those until you get your small sofa, TV entertainment stand and etc.

This sounds like a lot of dark. As a proud mud puppy mom (photo included because, well...), I'd encourage you to think about adding easy to clean fabrics in a lighter color. Maybe a white leather ottoman to complement the white pillows you're planning to add? Or something made from a performance fabric, like the stuff Sunbrella makes? We've had a light grey couch for awhile that is a not-so-resilient IKEA fabric, but it's machine washable. That's another direction to go in for a fabric ottoman. I would encourage you to think lighter for the rug, too. We have a light grey, cream, and taupe rug with a lot of irregularity and variety to it, kind of likethis one, but we bought it for a lower price several years ago at HomeGoods. It has survived multiple moves, a renovation, and potty training and it's still nice enough to go into a formal living room space. It looks modern and adds a lightness to the room. Follow up: the rug I included came up when I did a search for modern industrial area rug. You could also look at distressed area rugs.
