Another vote here for trying the different light bulbs in the lamps. I do love lamplight -- and really hate overhead lighting. Also switch to fresh white or creamy white lampshades too. Artworks can REALLY help to bring color and life to any space or room. Perhaps adding a larger warm-color art or print to your room might be nice? Or perhaps add warmth with an area rug? Or adding texture can help too -- perhaps some dark woven or wicker baskets? Or books on bookshelves? Slate blue sounds realy nice -- but MIGHT (depends on your room and its decor) bring a colder feel to the room. Do add some warmer color with cushions (maybe a darker red or even darker pumpkin orange? or saffron or gold? toned cushions?) Perhaps if you went for a "warmer" tone of paint with your sage curtains? Pale gold (try Laura Ashley's Gold #2 or #3) Just some thoughts -- hope you don't mind! :) Jan

It's such a pretty room already, you just need to add the icing. I agree with those who suggest moving the couch to face the fireplace and put 2 chairs facing each other between the couch and fireplace with the coffee table in the center. I'd also chose the slipper chairs because of their scale, but they may not be the preferred TV watching chairs for your family. How much room is there from the end of the couch where it is now and the wall facing/opposite the fireplace, behind the camera? If there is enough room, you could add a sofa table with a lamp or lamps on it behind the sofa (in the new suggested arrangement. That would bring some light to the middle of the room. ETA: I reread that you are replacing the armchairs. That opens up the options so much. I'd find a style you like and then search for that style made in a fabric you love, or have them custom made with your fabric, if that's in the budget. I don't think you can go wrong if you pick something you love, but if you are unsure, post choices here for opinions. These may not be your taste, but may help you start thinking about what you would like: Maybe not blue, but an all over print:

Definitely choose end tables first, then lamps. Target's Project 62 and Opalhouse collections have lots of great, reasonably priced options for both, as you can see! The pale blue, cream, and rusty red would be great colors to work with to brighten things up. Don't forget a lumbar pillow for your chair as well! If you look back at your first posting, you can see how nice the camel color pouf works with the furniture and rug. It brings warmth into the space. I think if you add some wood in a coffee table to the space, it will do the same thing. Maybe something like this, which also adds a bit of texture. A floor lamp added to the end of the sofa by the book case as suggested is also a good idea. You have the bones of a great room-it just needs a bit of finishing!

Hi Bharat- I couldn't find your paint color on the internet so I can't see what your paint color looks like. I absolutely disagree that your powder room can be dark. Your guests will use it, and the female guests will want to check their cosmetics and they can't do it in the dark! Although a dramatic powder room is fine. Is that what you want? I would find a coordinating ceiling fixture, and when you have it installed, have the electrician do it so that when you turn the lights on all the fixtures go on at the same time. If you have not already done so, please install a fan for the room that also goes on automatically when the lights go on. What I would have done would have been to install a ceiling fixture and sconces on either side of the mirror, they are much more flattering, and better lighting for putting on cosmetics, too. As for your paint color, if you feel it is too dark or too intense, you can either change it, or you can stencil a pattern over it in a lighter color glaze or a gentle metallic which would give it the look of a damask wallpaper which would be just marvelous. A paisley style design would be interesting as well. Pick a design that is appropriately scaled size of the room. Since it such a small room, it wouldn't take long, and you can do it yourself or pay some one to do it.
