Paint too liven up dark room
Comments (2)Another vote here for trying the different light bulbs in the lamps. I do love lamplight -- and really hate overhead lighting. Also switch to fresh white or creamy white lampshades too. Artworks can REALLY help to bring color and life to any space or room. Perhaps adding a larger warm-color art or print to your room might be nice? Or perhaps add warmth with an area rug? Or adding texture can help too -- perhaps some dark woven or wicker baskets? Or books on bookshelves? Slate blue sounds realy nice -- but MIGHT (depends on your room and its decor) bring a colder feel to the room. Do add some warmer color with cushions (maybe a darker red or even darker pumpkin orange? or saffron or gold? toned cushions?) Perhaps if you went for a "warmer" tone of paint with your sage curtains? Pale gold (try Laura Ashley's Gold #2 or #3) Just some thoughts -- hope you don't mind! :) Jan...See MoreHow to liven up my gray and dark brown decor in my family room
Comments (6)You need some yellow, lime green, peach sherbert, or dusty rose colors, maybe some rust or some terra cotta, ...And some sage green perhaps. Go get yourself some live flower arrangements, solid tones over a couple of weeks from the grocery or big box stores, and see what makes you happy? Than find you some toss pillows, pictures of rural or city scapes, maybe watercolors paintings? would add softness to the walls, and maybe a throw or 2, and see what happens? From there you might find some pretty window sheers with a very soft muted pattern in your most liked hues to cover the shutters and add some additional softness. https://www.wayfair.com/George-Oliver--City-Views-I-MultiPiece-Image-on-Wrapped-Canvas-GOLV2725-L1318-K~GOLV2725.html?refid=GX248928943619-GOLV2725_23818572&device=c&ptid=474119018077&network=g&targetid=pla-474119018077&channel=GooglePLA&ireid=62140174&fdid=1817&PiID%5B%5D=23818572&gclid=Cj0KCQjwz8bsBRC6ARIsAEyNnvq6Ya3WRI0ArXrPtOd9vi_LXHVvJLVj8JeB9-05WtuxlPSlpdzwsJMaAnIsEALw_wcB...See MoreLooking for suggestions to liven up and brighten dining room.
Comments (1)What a cute hound! You may have gathered this, but nothing makes a dining room less current than a matched set of dark wood everything (chairs, table, buffet, etc). But as you mention those things are staying, so there are lots of other options :) Hang artwork on the walls, two pieces that complement each other, on either side of the hutch. I think you're on the right track with choosing some colorful art, and get window treatments like roman shades (in a flat style or relaxed European style with banding, please no excessive swag) with some of the same colors as the art you choose. You could have the shade banding match your art, or you could have a patterned fabric with some of the colors in your artwork. I think you probably need banding to counterbalance the dark furniture. examples of modern window treatments that would look beautiful in your space: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/448600812866388172/?nic_v2=1a3TbA2DY https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1401/7175/products/white_linen_relaxed_shades_with_gray_band_4_93e14331-b160-402e-a3b0-d70a7b4e8560.jpg?v=1598653620 https://hgtvhome.sndimg.com/content/dam/images/hgtv/fullset/2015/10/13/2/CI_Smith-and-Noble-kitchen-roman-shade.jpg.rend.hgtvcom.966.725.suffix/1444778953750.jpeg Also: it looks like there is a nightstand or something that the sunflower art is resting on? That should go elsewhere - it looks cluttered and out of place in a dining room. I like the rug you have! And please don't take this the wrong way, but the candelabra is a bit 1990s - there are many others that are more updated, in many different styles :) https://www.westelm.com/products/metal-loop-candelabra-d5609/ https://www.potterybarn.com/products/glass-candelabra/ https://www.potterybarn.com/products/blown-glass-candlestick/?pkey=ccandle-holders&isx=0.1...See MoreLooking for advice on windows and living room set up.
Comments (48)Thank you for all your comments and suggestions. We are now leaning towards leaving the fireplace but expanding the casements as wide as we possible can on either side of the fireplace. We have about 83 inches on each side; however taking into account trim, I think we would be safe with 78 inches of space for windows. Thoughts on having 3 casements (one opening and 2 fixed) all the same size or two casements (one opening and one fixed) the same size or 2 casements with the opening one being smaller than the fixed one? Thoughts?...See MoreRugKnots | Area Rugs
