On my monitor, the pine floor looks more orange than red, and I see more brown in the tile. Since blue is complimentary color to orange, I think if she used a blue tone, it would blend nicely. I painted my tiny front entry in BM Wythe Blue, and carried the color up the stairs and into the upstairs hall. I painted the guest bedroom in BM's historic 'Ansonia Peach', and I have to say that I love going up those stairs and seeing the peach color next to the blue. Salmon, Idaho...I don't know where that is but it sounds nice! The island could turn 90 degrees...but the fridge probably won't work on the other wall, if you have the door outside. I mean, you could make it fit, but the fridge will be blocking your view of the door..and a bit of the banquette. However, if you don't plan to have an under counter fridge, you might want to make the large fridge more accessible to everyone. What do you plan to have? Do you need a freezer? Would that be downstairs or in the mudroom? Do you want a big range or do you need a wall oven? I just drew a basic layout (popular right now) with fridge and range across from prep sink and clean up on the other wall. Make sure you know how you want to use the space and adjust the layout, accordingly :) Oh, and if you want stools on the opposite side, I believe an island should be 3 1/2' across...and most walkways are 3 1/2' to 4' depending on access to appliances, etc.

Thanks for these ideas. I can't believe the effort you all put into offering ideas - taking photos of neighbors houses, inspiration pics, paint swatches and even color mockups! For jterrilynn - I really appreciate your mockup, however, the siding on this house is natural redwood. It is not stained or painted. I will be doing some work on it to get rid of some of the darkening, which I believe is extractive bleeding, and not mildew. I don't actually think the brick is the best match to the redwood, but it's there. I have considered painting it, but that sounds like extra maintenance, so for now, won't. I also think it's a bit less peachy than the photo makes it look. That was evening sun, and it does face west, so maybe it accentuates that color in the setting sun. If it doesn't rain today, I'll try out some swatches on the primed areas. Wish me luck!

Thanks again! I think the part I'm struggling with is that if I add the gray gutters, then on 3 sides where there is only siding, I've added a color that isn't showing anywhere else. Then does the gutter inadvertently become a "feature"?
