GS got TOOK. Houston also has PLENTY of grass, parks, walking trails. We saw a similar thing for the first time a year ago on our Alaskan cruise. There is made sense but still ISH!! Get a cat.

Have they no place to walk their dogs? Or do they just not exercise?

Well okay, if that makes a person's life easier and a dog's life better, why not. Not everyone has 24/7 access to a lawn. When I was reading up on puppy training last year, some people were advocating putting a tray of real sod in your puppy's play pen so they could get used to going on grass instead of puppy pads. That was supposed to make the transition to going outside easier. The things we do for our pets :-)

Does someone come and take it away, poop and all? Who wants dog poop on their balcony in the first place? Kind of crazy.

They have a dog park but quite some distance from their apt. The dogs get plenty of exercise but during the day when his wife is working from home too far to take then out for potty breaks. I guess it works just fine.

I would think they must pick the poop up.

This makes sense as mentioned for a balcony or terrace. They have artificial turf and little fire hydrants setups for the same reason.

If it works for them, why not? I would hate to see a dog have accidents because it takes too long to get downstairs.

They have made a similar product with artificial grass for years, of course you have to wash off the urine. It is sold to those who have tiny yorkies and the like, who do not want to go outdoors, it is just slightly bigger than a large cat box.

My friend used Fresh Patch for their two small dogs when they lived in a high rise. I thought it was genius! They were happy, their dogs were happy and the grass is biodegradable. What's the negative?

As I recall....on Shark Tank.....they got a deal with a Shark. It does sound like a good idea. ☺

I haven't really ever thought about how to get dogs to go, on a balcony. How do the humans clean up all the urine? Do you hose it over side? Or is there a drain in the patio? Do you have to bring that patch of artificial grass indoors and wash it in the tub? I know, a little gross, but it has me wondering.

We did something similar when our dog was a puppy. We had a fenced yard but the deck was several steps from the yard and at first he was too small to go down the steps. We bought sod from Home Depot.

Then the weather started to get rainy so he built a little lean to on the deck so the puppy didn’t get wet.

We kept the sod on the deck until spring.

I've known high rise residents who trained their practice children (dogs) to use an apartment's stall shower.

It's contained in a box, not just a hunk of sod laid down with nthing underneath.

Our master is upstairs with a balcony. Our dogs do, and will always, sleep in our bedroom. i will always have a dog, God willing, and if I’m someday too decrepit to make it downstairs fast enough to let them out, then bring it on!

Some people who live on boats use the artificial turf for their dogs. Beats trying to get to shore in a hurry.

When one rents a house or a car, they're expected to leave it pristine condition, as when they rented it, aren't they?

How would that work in a situation such as this?

My sod farmer landlord would sell them a roll of real sod about 15" wide by about 8' long, I think, for about 2 bucks.

I'll have to talk to him about a possibility of such rentals.

It makes lots of sense, if you can get your dog to use it. My sister used the artificial one because her little dog would pee in the house if it was raining outside, the little dickens. Yes, she had to hose it off often in the rainy months.

Why not just buy some sod? Or a good artificial piece of grass that can be washed
