Both of you made me laugh!

Great post! I'm always amazed at how weeds will grow anywhere you couldn't possibly try to grow something. Like in cracks in the driveway or under siding or in the downspouts!

I was at Panera the other day... there was a weed growing in one of the patio corners closest to the building. It was surrounded on all sides, even vertically, with concrete. There you have it... how can we win?! I spent a good hour yesterday hand-pulling weeds, but weirdo that I am, I enjoy it. Unexplainable, I know.

HAHA! I can't remember who said it, but it was in regard to what a weed is, and they said something to the effect that if dandelions were hard to grow, we'd be selling them in pots for $5 each. Here in the South, we hate honeysuckle, but up north, they grow it as a ground cover (and probably buy it in $5 pots...lol)

Oh, that's right. And was it you that told us that they sell dollarweed, too?

Dollarweed is edible, and not bad tasting if you can find it somewhere clean. It's sold as an edible green in some oriental markets. ETA: It's usually sold as Pennywort.

As i have said before i love dollarweed. I wish my whole yard was dollarweed, cool and soft under foot. A wonderful carpet to lay amongst on a hot day outside. But dollarweed likes a lot of water and only grows near the ditch and near the neighbors sprinklers.

My sister and her guy friend was over the other helping me with a tree. And noticed my plants growing out of the cracks in the concrete. sis wanted to pull them but i love them...i have periwinkle, mexican buttercups and a fern growing in the cracks. I did not plant them but i so admire their tenacity.

Pea, I once did a blog post all about a rain lily growing in a crack between pavers in my yard during one of the worst times in my life, and how it gave me hope that I could survive. Here's the post if you want to read it.

I get a perverse satisfaction out of weeding my flower beds. Especially dollarweed…if I let it go it takes over my beds.

I actually really like most plants called weeds because, like Pea, I admire their tenacity. And if you look closely at their (usually) tiny flowers they are just as pretty as larger ones.

My issue with weeds is that tey grow so well that they often choke my "flowers". But on my acre property they are allowed to do whatever they want anywhere except in the beds. That means that most of my yard is theirs! There, I don't feel so bad for yanking them out.
