What colour for front porch railings - Help!

I need help figuring out what to do with my front porch railings. We painted the posts and hand rail blue to match the door(over the old beige paint that had been there for 20 years). It was not great. This summer I thought I would strip the blue paint and stain them. It’s been brutal, I did not think it through.

I have most of the paint off but there are so many creases on the posts it’s been horrible trying to sand them to get the little bits of blue and beige still on them.

Suffice it to say, I now give up. I just want to paint the railings and be done with it (as it’s now October) but not sure what colour will work. I’m planning on leaving off the rounded ball toppers and just getting simple post caps as well for the posts.

This is where I need help. What colour is best? Please? I’m clueless with this stuff.

Appreciate any help!

If you want them to stand out a bit, use the creamy white color of the bricks. If you want them to disappear a bit, use the darker brick color.

That "ball topper" is more than likely part of the newel post and not an add on.

We matched columns to trim. However, because we have so many single French doors on the front, we didn't paint our front door a different color. IF you have a HOA/ARB -- you might want to check about approved colors for your front door. If you don't have one, congratulations! :-) Cameron

Lyban, I like the one with the simple scroll at top, too. We are selecting these railings with the idea that we will use the same style for the gate at the street. The gate I especially like curves upwards from both sides and has a scroll where they meet. Thank you, everyone!

I would replace the railings. Even if not needed by code, they add a finished look and railings are always welcome with more than two steps. Appreciated by any elderly or infirm visitors and adding to resale value. btw, the yew is one plant that cam be pruned back to the ground for a more manageable size. It will regrow but slowly and it is easy to keep up with an annual pruning to keep the plant in check. However, a heavily pruned back yew is not an overly attractive item and since this a highly visible entry planting, you might opt to remove or relocate.

Suggest you stop and decide what the entire project will look like, then work to make it happen. Think through all your ideas. Figure out how everything will be done. Looking at the lights for an example. The base should be in the center of the piece of siding. Lap siding is normally installed with butt joints staggered, or the end butts a piece of trim. I'd remove the 2 leftmost lights, add some dark trim and a wide column. Consider removing the railing.

Match the trim around the door. Also, I would paint the white frame around the glass on the door the same blue as the door.
